“Tat Tvam Asi” — “You Are That” — Recognizing Sat-Chit-Ananda
“You Are That” is the undoing of the search for Self.
It does not add to you.
It subtracts what you are not.
Not as belief.
Not as concept.
But as lived recognition of what has always been the case:
You are Sat–Chit–Ananda—Existence, Consciousness, Bliss.
✧ Sat — Pure Existence
Look now.
Not through thought, but through direct noticing:
Are you not undeniably here?
This presence you feel is not given to you by the mind,
nor sustained by belief.
Before anything is known,
there is Being.
That Being is not an object—it is you.
Not as the body,
not as the one who thinks,
but as the very fact that something is.
This is Sat—unchanging, self-evident Existence.
Not existing as something,
but as the field in which all somethings appear.
✧ Chit — Consciousness Itself
Now ask gently:
What knows this Being?
You are aware of being.
You are aware of thoughts.
You are aware of body, breath, sensation.
This awareness is not seen.
It is the light by which all else is seen.
It does not begin or end.
It does not flicker when thought is silent.
This is Chit—pure Consciousness,
not a personal faculty,
but the universal knowing that is aware even of the “person.”
The thought “I exist” comes and goes.
But the Knowing never came.
It was already here.
✧ Ananda — The Peace Beneath the Search
And now,
what arises when there is no grasping, no pushing,
when Being and Knowing rest as one?
A quiet joy. A causeless contentment.
Not pleasure,
not excitement,
but the subtle radiance of peace
that shines when there is nothing left to defend.
This is Ananda.
Not found, but revealed—
when the imagined self relaxes,
and the real is no longer denied.
It is not the reward of realization—
it is the fragrance of what has never been apart.
✦ This Is What You Are
You are That.
Not something else that becomes this.
Not someone who earns it.
You are not a body with awareness.
You are awareness appearing as a body.
You are not in the world.
The world arises in You.
The one who sought has never been separate
from what was sought.
Let this be more than philosophy.
Let it be your direct looking.
Right now.
Without effort, without waiting.
Sat – feel the undeniable reality of your being.
Chit – notice that you are aware of this being.
Ananda – rest in the quiet joy of what needs no improvement.
No technique is needed to be what you are.
Only the courage to stop pretending you are something else.
