It was an extremely emotional night last night at our Annual VanCity Awards night banquet.
Last night we started a new award to be given out every year going forward.
This award is to commemorate one of our athletes who has gone through a very tough time over the past year and shown resilience and strength.
The award is the Andrea Mundie Resilience Award and is named after one of the strongest and most resilient people within our VanCity Basketball Community. Andrea has battled cancer multiple times including an aggressive form of brain cancer this past year and somehow fights her way back to continue to care for her 4 kids and all the kids in our community.
This years recipient is an amazing young lady named Cali. Cali is a great athlete playing basketball and soccer. Cali has gone through some very difficult times over the past year and all the people in our community continue to support and love her.
Congrats Cali on being our first recipient of the Andrea Mundie Resilience Award

Basketball is now a Global Game. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play basketball against European competition in an international tournament?
VanCity Basketball Academy will be traveling to Portugal in July 2026 to participate in the Portugal Basketball Festival.
In 2025 the Portugal Basketball Festival hosted teams from the UK, France, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and the USA.
VanCity Basketball Academy would like to select 8-10 players this September to begin training and fundraising with the ultimate goal of winning the 2026 Portugal Basketball Festival as well as playing extra friendly games in Portugal.
Tryouts for the VanCity U14-18 boys and girls teams that will represent Canada in the 2026 Portugal Basketball Festival will begin this week in North Vancouver. The teams will run September until July with limited practices during the winter months because of high school basketball.
Not many club teams in Vancouver travel to Europe to play international basketball and this is your chance to send your son or daughter or even bring your entire family on a once in a lifetime trip.

For sure one of the most photographed people at the 2025 Taro Cup was VanCity Basketball Academy Girls Head Coach Steph von Riedemann.
Steph was truly a spectacular leader to her team and the entourage that followed them.
She took pictures with players, coaches, game day staff, mascots, and dignitaries.
Always a happy to oblige with a smile and even signed a few autographs.
We are so lucky to have Steph lead our girls team and represent Canada in Taiwan this year.
Thank you from all the players, coaches, and families for your hard work and dedication to teaching these young women the game of basketball on the court as well as mentoring them in the game of life off the court.
From motivation talks to kindness cards to pep talks to a hug when necessary, Coach Steph was always there.
These kids couldn’t have asked for a more kind and supportive role model.
We love you Steph ❤️

VanCity Basketball Club’s U13 girls just put Canada on the map! 🏀🏆
The North Vancouver team took home the bronze at the prestigious Taro Cup in Taipei, going head-to-head with top youth squads from across Asia and North America. This was the first time VanCity Basketball Academy sent teams overseas to compete in the elite tournament, which featured players born in 2012 from countries like Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.
Head coach Steph von Riedemann called the trip “transformative,” saying the girls didn’t just compete—they grew as athletes and young leaders. After battling through a stacked bracket, they landed third behind Tu Ku of Taiwan and Team Korea. Beyond the medal, the team brought home life-long memories, deeper bonds, and international experience that most 13-year-olds only dream of.
