Great work keeping Vancouver Climbers safe!!

*** BCMC Trail Update ***
Work is being conducted by Metro Vancouver Regional Parks on the trail currently. Whether you support the changes or oppose the changes - nobody was consulted and it’s happening. Lots of small critters being displaced and vegetation being damaged.
In particular, our First Nations groups in Vancouver are never consulted or engaged by MVRP in any park planning. Then again, they are not legally required to so why would they ever want to reconcile historical indigenous wrongs?
Snow starts near the 3/4 mark. Trail is dry and in good condition. Lots of hikers out enjoying the nice weather today. Enjoy a few photos.

No better time than now to take an avalanche skills course. The current conditions are very risky but it’s the perfect time to learn from a professional.
AST 1 Green: Dec 27-28. Spots available. Book online.
The conditions are perfect for learning how avalanches form and how to travel in avalanche terrain. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to have a lot of fun while learning about avalanches - skills that will make you a lot safer.
Our AST 1 Green is designed for beginner backcountry skiers and splitboarders. Two field days gives you plenty of time to learn the curriculum while also taking more time on your skis.

A pay parking pilot project is coming to your local Vancouver crag. Join Vancouver Climbers Association now! Support us to be the voice for Vancouver climbers to negotiate these policies with council before they become permanent.
The pilot project will charge you to park in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park $3/hr to a maximum of 3hours. Violators overstaying or not paying can be fined $75. The pilot is meant to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation to the park and trails however, climbers were not consulted at stakeholders.
Currently, climbing is “not a recognized activity” in Metro Vancouver Regional Parks (MVRP). In order to bring the voice of climbers into these council discussions and stakeholder meeting we need your membership! This is the time to support your local climbers association! Stand unified and rally together with us now!

Soon we hope to meet with MVRP to discuss a management plan and policies around our activities. Fingers crossed we can be recognized as a recreational group and public user of our parks. If this step is successful then VCA can leverage the climbing communities voices into stakeholder meetings to communicate our concerns.
Climbers easily spend greater than 3hours at a crag. We need to warm up for an hour and then typically spend 1/2 a day or full day climbing. As a user group in public parks our sport requires representation to inform and familiarize policy makers with our activities.
In the interest of climbing, we encourage climbers to write respectful letters to the MVRP Board to be heard. Please find the list of emails here:

Current BCMC trail conditions as of 6pm, Dec 1st! Amazing evening on the trail tonight. Perfectly crisp and clear weather allowed us to scoot up there with trail runners, sweater, water bottle, and headlamp. Keep in mind, we’ve hiked this trail for decades! If your new to the area please take more equipment per what NSR recommends!
