After watching the World Team Championships, can we give a little love to the crews?

Because while the runners are the ones putting in the yards, there's a whole other race happening back in camp.

The food.

The dry clothes.

The headlamps.

The encouragement.

The occasional tough love.

And somehow knowing exactly what your runner needs when they can barely put a sentence together.

We've seen firsthand at GrassRoots how much these people mean to the runners.

So here's a question for our Backyardigans: What's the best piece of advice you'd give someone crewing their first Backyard Ultra?

Well, Backyardigans... you did it again. ❤️

GrassRoots Backyard Ultra 2027 is officially FULL!

And here we are, eight months away from race day, with a full corral and a whole lot of stories waiting to be written.

I can't tell you how much I love seeing so many familiar names coming back for another round, alongside first-timers, former volunteers and those who have finally decided it's time to see what this whole Backyard thing is about.

If you didn't manage to grab a spot, don't count yourself out just yet!

Our waitlist is officially open, and we'll start reviewing it on December 1 as spots become available. So go ahead and add your name. You never know when an opportunity for one more loop might come knocking.

To everyone who's joining us on June 26, 2027... thank you for continuing to make this little backyard of ours something pretty special.

Well, I had a feeling this might happen...

After watching everything unfold at the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships, I suspected a few more people might start wondering what they could do if they stepped into the corral themselves.

And apparently, I wasn't wrong.

We're now down to just THREE spots remaining for the 2027 GrassRoots BYU!

What I love most is seeing how many familiar names are coming back, along with those who have decided it's finally their turn to give this wonderfully ridiculous format a try.

There's something about watching people do extraordinary things that makes you start wondering what's possible for yourself.

And I can't wait to see what happens in next June. ❤️

Okay, Backyardigans.

Now that we've had a little time to process what unfolded at the World Team Championships...

How's everyone doing?

HISTORY. 🇧🇪

The Belgians have done it. Again.

120 yards.
120 hours.
500 miles.

A new backyard ultra world record.

And as I’m writing this, they’re not finished.

We’re watching the screen as they come in from yard 121. Two runners, still moving, with the world record now behind them and absolutely no finish line in sight.

Five straight days of one more yard.

And then there were four. Four countries.

Four when I went to sleep. Four when I woke up. And they’re still moving well.

They’re dialled in, and as Laz just said, they’re battling for the world title now. We could be watching for hours yet.

So, good luck getting any work done today. 😂 Anyone else working with the livestream open and calling it multitasking?

Well… if the World Team Championship has you thinking about getting into a backyard — or giving one another go — you’re apparently not alone.

We’re down to a handful of spots for 2027 and there are some pretty great names already in the corral.

We’re especially excited to welcome back three past winners: Louis Johnson, Josh Wild and Preston Schaffer along with plenty of familiar faces who know exactly what this course can ask of you.

Maybe having a few past champs standing beside you will even spur you on a little. 👀

Leading into the first bell of the World Team Championship, we knew watching the best backyard runners in the world go at it would inspire people. Now, watching it actually unfold? It’s hard not to start wondering what you might be capable of.

First backyard. Another backyard. Chasing a new personal best. Whatever brings you to that starting corral, we’d love to see you there.

Be honest… how’s everyone’s productivity at work looking right now? 👀

992 runners started on Saturday at 7 a.m., Tennessee time. They’re just completing lap 79, with 31 runners representing nine countries STILL out there. And two Canadian runners are still in the mix!

Back into the corral. Out for another yard. Hour after hour.

Meanwhile, some of us are trying to answer emails with the live broadcast open in another tab. 😂

There's something that happens during Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Team Championships.

You watch. You follow the numbers. You see people heading back into the corral hour after hour after hour.

And somewhere along the way, a little voice starts saying...
I wonder how many yards I could do?

We know. That's how they get you. 😂

The Championships begin October 17, and well, there are only 15 spots remaining for next year's GrassRoots BYU.

Why is that important you ask?

Our Early Bird pricing wraps up October 16, which is probably good timing—because once you're watching Backyardigans around the world answer the bell, we make absolutely no promises about what you'll decide to do next.

If GrassRoots has been sitting in the back of your mind, you might want to grab your spot before the world gets running.
