A cleft can be up to 5” wide, while a finished bat must meet strict size limits. That means careful trimming width is essential—and no matter how skilled the process, you’ll always lose a few grains along the way.

The real craftsmanship lies in preserving as many grains as possible while shaping a perfectly balanced bat. Something we have to loose an extra grain to keep the better pinging part of the bat.
