Statement by President Alton Wu on the death of Her Majesty The Queen

September 9, 2022
The PRW community joins all Canadians in mourning the loss of our Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Before she acceded to the Throne, in an address to the young people of her future realms and territories, she promised that her whole life would be devoted to the service of her people. She fulfilled that promise with unparalleled grace and dignity, and in so doing set a magnificent example for us all. Her unfailing devotion to duty has been a constant source of strength and continuity for generations of Canadians as well as countless others around the world. Indeed it is difficult to imagine a world without her.
The Queen has also made an immeasurable contribution to international peace and solidarity through the Commonwealth, a vital institution which forms a key part of her legacy. In tribute to Her Majesty, in this time of sadness and in the years to come, let us remember and learn from her life of dedicated and extraordinarily generous service to others, and give thanks for a life very well lived.
Alton Wu

Statement from PRW President Michael Snow

In a post-game press conference today, Corey Wilson stated that his “thumbs down” gesture during a recent game was a message to fans who recently have booed him and other players for poor performance. These comments, and any gestures by him or other players with a similar intent, are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

PRW fans are understandably frustrated over the team’s recent performance. The players and the organization are equally frustrated, but fans at Kinsella and Queenswood Ridge Park have every right to express their own disappointment. Booing is every fan’s right.

The PRW will not tolerate any player gesture that is unprofessional in its meaning or is directed in a negative way toward our fans. I will be meeting with our players and staff to convey this message directly.

PRW fans are loyal, passionate, knowledgeable and more than willing to express themselves. We love them for every one of these qualities.

Pitches Runnin’ Wild to seek proposals for charitable arm

by PRW Communications / Pitches Runnin’ Wild

June 5, 2020

OTTAWA - The Pitches Runnin’ Wild Softball club today announced it will begin a request for proposal (RFP) process to explore alternative options to further its philanthropic endeavours. The Pitches Runnin’ Wild Care Foundation, has been the charitable arm of the Softball club for the last ten years.

The current terms of the foundation's licensing agreement, which provides the foundation the right to use the Pitches Runnin’ Wild brand, will end on July 31, 2020. The Pitches Runnin’ Wild informed the current foundation leadership months ago that the club intends to open a fair and transparent request for proposals (RFP) process to ensure its charitable arm remains a vital part of the community. The foundation leadership protested and informed the Pitches Runnin’ Wild they would not comply with an RFP process.
The Pitches Runnin’ Wild will continue its support for all initiatives. The club also hopes to broaden and expand its reach to include the scope of heart disease and organ transplant educational resources.

To that end, the club is announcing its intention to initiate an RFP process to solicit submissions for public bids. The final RFP will be available to the public shortly.

Pitches Runnin’ Wild announce continued payment of minor league players through end of June

OTTAWA -- All Minor League players in the PRW organization will "continue to receive their current allowance and benefits" through the end of June, the club announced Saturday.

This provides a level of certainty for the PRW Minor Leaguers over the coming month. A decision regarding July and August will follow at a later date. The PRW join a large group of clubs across the league who have extended their commitments.
The status of the 2020 Minor League season has not yet been determined, though that should become clearer through the ongoing negotiations between the league and the Players Association regarding a potential return to play.

Nearly all the PRW Minor League players have returned home during the global coronavirus pandemic, which cut Spring Training short in April and has put the season on hold. A group of the club's young Venezuelan players were unable to return home and have stayed in Florida, where the PRW are working to keep those young players comfortable and engaged both physically and mentally.

“There’s been a hierarchy to every single thing we’ve gone through,” said club president Michael Snow soon after softball was suspended in March. “Which is first at the human level, doing everything we can to keep our staff and our fans safe, healthy and largely complying and trying to assist with broader community and societal challenges.”

Which player would you want to see featured if the PRW had a camera crew following us around during a season and why!?

Which player first comes to mind when you see this logo?!

Which clubhouse would you choose to spend quarantine with!?

OTTAWA – PRW announced today the cancellation of 2020 spring training and fanfest in its entirety, as well as the postponement of 2020 Opening Day.

“Previously, the decision was made to postpone spring training by at least two weeks (from April 1), due to the emergency created by COVID-19. However, it has now become apparent we will be unable to hold a proper spring training in preparation for the 2020 season. With the City of Ottawa’s mandate to close all facilities until June 30 and current public health guidelines, cancelling all PRW events was the prudent course of action to take

The health and safety of our players is paramount. We will continue to work alongside the league and public health experts to determine next steps. We will use our social media platforms to communicate our policies and procedures as soon as we are able, updating as necessary along the way. These are unprecedented times and circumstances may change by the hour, so we thank you for your patience and we wish you and yours the best of health during this difficult time”

PRWSE announces $100 fund for part-time workers of the PRW and TPMIHC.

"The health and safety of our employees, players and fans continues to be our top priority. Our employees have shown resilience, professionalism and understanding as we work through these challenging times. Developing our People and being an exceptional place to work is a Core Value at PRWSE. In times like this, we all need to stick together.

"Our gameday staff is part of our family and we want to make sure that we take care of them and support them during these challenging economic times. As a result, PRWSE is pleased to announce the creation of a $100 assistance program to ensure their well-being is protected. All part-time staff affected by a temporary halt in our operations will receive financial payment based on individual need" PRWSE

OTTAWA – PRW announced today the decision to suspend PRW spring training by at least two weeks due to the emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic.

“The health and wellness of our fans, players and associates is our team’s top priority. In light of rapidly changing developments resulting from the coronavirus, we believe this decision is in the best interests of the safety and well-being of the public and the game of softball. While our hope is to play softball at Queenswood Ridge or Kinsella Park soon, we will continue to work in close coordination with QWHSA, as well as with Public Health Agency of Canada, Ontario Public Health, Ottawa Public Health, Premier Doug Ford, Mayor Jim Watson and their administrations to ensure that we make the best decisions to protect public health and safety" - Manager, Alton Wu

Ottawa Public Health advises the best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. In general, everyday preventive actions can help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
-Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
-Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early and share your recent travel history with your health care provider.
-If you have concerns about procedures to follow for isolation, how to safely visit a health care provider when you think you may have the virus, or any other care-related questions, you can call Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744.

David McCloskey had his left knee surgically repaired yesterday. The procedure was performed by Dr. Bienkowski at the Kemptville District Hospital in Kemptville, Ontario. David had a tear in his ACL and MCL, requiring multi-ligament reconstruction. Team doctors were present in Kemptville, to support David and observe the entire procedure. The repair was excellent and gives David every reason to be very optimistic he will be ready for 2018 Spring Training.

David already began the rehab process yesterday and will return to Ottawa to continue on the road to recovery very soon and looks forward to getting back on the diamond.

Statement from Pitches Runnin’ Wild Sports and Entertainment

The Pitches Runnin’ Wild have the greatest fans in the world. Our goal, every single year, is to win and compete for the QWHSA championship, while providing our fans with an exceptional experience at the ballpark.

Our 2017 season have fallen glaringly short of everyone's expectations, especially given our 2016 success, and for that, we are sorry. We take full responsibility for how this team performs on the diamond, and we make no excuses. The way this year ended was unacceptable.

Over the next few weeks, ownership and management will undertake a full comprehensive organizational review. We need to identify any gaps, and to take proper action to ensure this does not happen again.

Thank you for your unwavering support.

Yours in Softball,
