We are thrilled to introduce you to Ms. Deanna, who will be teaching our Monday night ballet programs!

Deanna Cormier is a dance educator, award-winning choreographer, competitive dance adjudicator, and dance photographer born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario.

She first fell in love with dance at the age of three, when her mother enrolled her hoping dance would help her develop great posture. Little did she know it would become Deanna’s career and lifelong passion.

An educator since 2003, Deanna has extensive experience in dance education, program design, curriculum development, and evaluation. For 12 years, she was a Professor in the Musical Theatre program at St. Lawrence College (SLC) in Brockville, Ontario, teaching ballet, tap, modern, and warm-up technique. In 2020 and 2021, she was nominated for SLC’s Academic Excellence Award and is a co-founder of the Musical Theatre Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.

Throughout her career, Deanna has worked extensively as a dance educator and choreographer, creating award-winning competitive work while supporting dancers in both their technical and artistic development. Her experience as a competitive dance adjudicator gives her the opportunity to encourage and provide meaningful feedback to dancers and educators beyond her own studio. She also combines her love of dance and visual storytelling through dance photography.

In 2021, Deanna completed her Master of Education through the University of Prince Edward Island. She is passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences and finding innovative ways to support student growth.

In 2019, Deanna completed the MindLeaps Train the Trainer program in Conakry, Guinea. She continues to support MindLeaps outreach programming in Canada and Africa, using dance and movement to help vulnerable youth build cognitive, social, and emotional skills.

Deanna has completed the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT) Teachers Training School in Jazz and Tap and the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS). She also mentors teachers completing the RAD CBTS and Acro Dance Teachers Association (ADTA) programs. Her additional qualifications include ADTA Acro, RAD Benesh Movement Notation, RAD Silver Swans, Progressive Ballet Technique, and Acro Dance Adjudication certifications.

Whether she is teaching, choreographing, adjudicating, mentoring, or behind the camera, Deanna is passionate about helping dancers grow in confidence, artistry, and skill while fostering a lifelong love of dance.
