The Footy Sevens Story
It feels a bit pompous to be writing a biography of our soccer league. However, facebook has added a wee box on our page that implores us to do just that. So, we might as well give it a go despite the fact that we aren’t anyone really worth reading about like a minor Kardashian or the runner-up on season xx of The Bachelor.
Footy Sevens began about a decade ago with a few soccer/football/futbal/footy enthusiasts renting an indoor field for a pick-up game. As the pool of players grew, we took the big step of renting some additional time to run the first ever Ottawa Footy Sevens coed soccer league, a small friends and family league of 6 teams which kicked off in summer 2009. As more and more teams and players asked to join, the league grew to more than one division and even to more than one night. No matter how much the leagues have grown, we have always tried to stick to a (pretty basic) principal of always trying to run leagues that we would want to play in ourselves. Regardless of your skill level, we want to make sure that all of our leagues are played on top-class turf fields, with great staff and the best customer service we can provide. It seems that a lot of Ottawa soccer players agree and our little six-team league has now become a staple of the Ottawa sports community with 200-300 teams playing in any given season.
