Most trainers don’t fail because they lack passion — they fail because they lack structure.

After nearly a decade in the fitness industry, I’ve seen it all — and made most of the same mistakes myself. Here are the 3 biggest ones I see new trainers make when trying to grow their business.

Avoid these, and you’ll already be ahead of 90% of the competition. 💪

🚫 No plan
🚫 Talking without taking action
🚫 Lack of patience

Today’s workout marks 31 months of staying strong in the gym and consistent with my routine. Thirty-one months ago, I made the decision to set a goal of establishing a routine and committing to it. I set this goal because, before this, I struggled with inconsistency. My workouts were on and off, often lasting only four months at a time before falling out of routine. By committing to consistency, I eliminated the guilt, self-criticism, and disappointment that came with failing to meet my fitness goals.

This new mindset allowed me to be more compassionate and understanding with myself. I realized that as long as I put in the effort and honored my commitment, I had achieved something significant—whether or not I hit a specific weight or performance goal. Simply showing up to the gym and staying active was enough.

These 31 months have taught me, and continue to remind me, that growth happens during the journey, not at the destination. The destination and the vision of where you want to be are just tools to help you become the person you need to be to achieve your goals and desires.

My routine has strengthened me spiritually, mentally, and physically through a commitment to prayer, meditation, and strength training. While we may all have different goals when it comes to health and fitness, one thing we can all take away is this: whatever you want to achieve, as long as you are willing to start and commit to it regularly, you can become a happier, healthier, and better version of yourself.

Much love to everyone. If you ever feel you could benefit from my help or the support of our team at Soungui Fitness, we would be more than happy to help you reach your goals.

The Journey to Soungui Fitness

Preparation: Laying Down The Bricks

The greatest thing in life that we can do for ourselves is to follow our passions. Our passions can lead us down many different paths, each taking us through a transformation and preparing us for the next step. My passion was playing basketball, and the strong love I had for the game started at the age of 10. I got my first taste of competition when I was in 5th grade. Being one of two youngest and the smallest on the team, I didn’t receive much play time on the court, though it still felt great to hold a position. When 6th grade came along my competitiveness took on another level, all thanks to a friend at the time and now a brother, David. We made everything a competition and would always push ourselves to prove who was the best, always ending in a disagreement. We had competitions on the basketball court, and in classes on tests, seeing who would receive the better grade on a math test or perform better on a spelling quiz.

Focusing In On Direction

Carrying on through my junior to senior high school years at Philemon Wright, I began to learn what self-discipline was and how it was a great importance toward my future success. I played for the football and basketball team at Philemon which helped me strengthen my self-discipline, and fortunately kept me busy and away from trouble.
