Congratulations to one of our successful Grant Recipients for 2020- Les Coureurs de Bois Running Club for their Nordic ski project! With their grant of $2000 we hope to help them by providing ski equipment as an extension of their cross-country running and track & field training so that their athletes have a year-round opportunity to remain active and healthy. This will ensure that all athletes who wish to participate in this program (regardless of financial capability) will be able to take part. https://bit.ly/2Q2NN1A
Seniors Only: Meet at Kids Park at Ypres and Melfa on base tomorrow :)
Hi Gang. A few senior runners were asking about ideal gear for winter running sessions and here are a few of my " GO TO's". I have been able to train to -25 if properly dressed! These are great ideas for gifts or what you can ask for Xmas presents maybe :)

1. Thick Base Layers top and bottom ( available at Sport Check)
2. Thermal Tights ( sometimes you might have 2 pairs on)
3. Wind Pants
4. Long socks
5. Normal running shoes or winter running shoes
6. Thermal running long sleeve top ( the one that wraps on thumb is ideal)
7. Fleece pullover or jacket
8. Thermal Windbreaker

VERY KEY:

Neck warmers!!
Balaklava ( locally the hat/neck warmer that is great is a Valley Work Wear) It needs to pull up over your mouth and cheeks
Good Gloves/Mitts
Warm toque
Goggles or good glasses for the very motivated who will run in the snow squalls :)

Check to see what you have so you are ready. When available BUY THINGS THAT HAVE REFLECTIVE TAPE/GLOW IN DARK!

Get Ready as the cold and dark is coming but we will be ready to run! :) Coach Donna
Just a quick read ! Eat healthy, train smart but don’t obsess about either !!

https://raceroster.com/events/2022/60513/petawawa-25th-anniversary-trail-run

The Petawawa 25th Anniversary Trail Run is the first ever official trail run hosted on the beautiful Algonquin Trail through the heart of the picturesque town of Petawawa. The race is part of the 25th Anniversary of the amalgamation of the Village of Petawawa and the Township of Petawawa. It is hosted by the Coureurs de Bois Running Club of Petawawa and sponsored by Dog House Brewery and features a 3.2km Munchkin Run, a 5.4km trail run and a 10km trail run. Race will be timed using chip timing. Registration and bib pick-up opens at 7:30am on Sunday, July 3rd at the Kinhut by the Petawawa Civic Centre Mini Putt. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers for boys and girls in the 3.2km Munchkin Run, the top three finishers both male and female in the 5.4km and 10km runs for both U50 and 50+ categories. The medal ceremony will be held at the Kinhut at 12:00 noon. All participants in the 5km and 10km race will receive a Dog House Brewery beer glass and those racers aged 19 and over will receive a complimentary Dog House Brewery beverage at the Kinhut post-race. All three races start and finish on the Algonquin Trail at the intersection of Murphy Road and Petawawa Boulevard across the street from Kelsey's Restaurant. The 3.2km Munchkin Run starts at 9:00am and is for runners U14, it heads west on the Algonquin Trail (crushed limestone surface) and then winds through Kiddyland Park on grass surface before emerging back onto Algonquin Trail where it continues west to Doran Road where runners will then turn around and retrace their steps to the finish line. The 5km trail run starts at 10:00am and is open to all runners with race categories of U50 and 50+. It heads west on the Algonquin Trail until runners cross a bridge over the rushing Petawawa River and then reach Paquette Road. A quick right through some sandy uneven terrain for 25m brings runners to their return journey along a paved path, crossing another bridge over the mighty Petawawa River until they rejoin the Algonquin Trail at Portage Road for the home stretch back to the finish. The 10km trail run begins with the 5km runners and follows the same path until Paquette Road where runners will turn left and follow a gravel road with an uneven surface until they near highway 17 where the trail veers up a small hill to a trail through a wooded area where there will be a turnaround point at the 5km mark. Runners will then proceed back the same way they came, eventually joining the paved path, back over the Petawawa River to the finish line. It is a scenic run through the town of Petawawa suitable for runners of all ages and abilities. Come and join us for our 25th Anniversary celebration. Looks like the weather will clear up for our practice tomorrow. Just a reminder that it is for grades 5 to 8 only and that we will end 10:30 instead of 11:00. Have a great May long weekend.

For those C de B members who may be interested in our Nordic Skate Ski Program next winter, here are the details. The Nordic Skate Ski Program is for athletes in Grades 6, 7 and 8 only. High School students will train with their respective high school teams. It costs $50.00 to rent a set of equipment which consists of skis, boots and poles. Precedent for ski rentals will be given to skiers who have rented in past seasons first, if skis are left over after that, then new members may apply. I only have 20 rental sets. I also rent larger ski sets to Valour High School ski team members. There is a $40.00 PAXC ski trail fee payable on the PAXC website. Practice times are on Saturday and Sunday and one weekday (usually Wednesday) after school at 4:30 to 6:00. All practice days and times are dependent on weather, temperature and trail conditions. We held a Nordic Skate Ski Race Day as well for the Grade 6, 7 and 8 skiers. Your $150 annual Coureurs de Bois fee covers the nordic skate ski season as well.

86 athletes at the first Coureurs de Bois Track and Field practice of 2022. Everyone worked hard and had a great time. For those runners who wanted my post workout smoothie recipe, here it is:

Coureurs de Bois Groovy Smoothie

1 small tangerine (or half a large tangerine)
1/2 frozen banana (must be frozen to give smoothie a thickness)
couple of frozen strawberries
2 frozen pineapple or mango pieces
couple of frozen berries (blueberries, raspberries, cherries or a mix)
2 pieces frozen avocado chunks
1 small yogurt cup (any flavour - vanilla or strawberry is best)
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1 tablespoon ground hemp seed
1 tablespoon coconut oil (solid)
enough milk to cover all ingredients
1 tablespoon protein powder (optional)

All into a blender then blend full power for 30 seconds.
This is a POST-workout smoothie. If you drink this before the workout, you will barf during the workout.

See you next Saturday.

Hello,

Thanks again to all the athletes and their parents for making the second Coureurs de Bois Nordic Skate Ski season a huge success. Thanks to all the coaches who volunteered their time and expertise (Destiny Genoe, Justine Mumford, Ryan Kranz, Jessica Yemen, Johnny Frampton, Jamie Hopkins). Hope everyone enjoyed the skiing and comes back next year.

To return the equipment, just leave the boots, skis and poles on the front porch of 64 Radtke Road in Petawawa anytime. Please make sure the two ski bones or ski straps are both in place keeping the skis secure.

I have attached some photos.

Thanks again and see you at track and field season when Dundonald Hall opens up.

Gary
