True story for July 1st, 2026.

58 years ago, my parents immigrated with a two-year-old me in tow from Croatia (part of Yugoslavia at the time), under a program from PM Pierre Elliott Trudeau in the Liberals' first year in power, 1968.

Like so many others, we came with almost nothing.

Mom sewed jeans for GWG — she probably made the pants your parents or grandparents wore back then. Dad dug sewers and fixed city infrastructure, hands literally (and figuratively 😅) in sewage.

We struggled. Empty fridge. Hunger pangs. Days without. But my parents never quit — and a community helped: friends, extended family, neighbours, even strangers.

Canada gave them more than the landscape (though that helps 😉). Social programs, healthcare, public schooling, education subsidies — they got through the hard times because of them. That's how community is built. That's the backbone.

Mom got her hairstylist license and opened her own salon — it flourished. Dad became a pipefitter and worked the oil patch till retirement. They did well. They gave back. Big shoes for my brother and me to fill.

Mom, still going strong at 82, says we never would've made it to Canada without that program. She's voted Liberal ever since. Dad, the family contrarian, would take the opposite side just to needle her — and she'd do the same right back. Classic them. 😄

Today, like every day, I'm grateful to be Canadian. We have it good here — better than most. Nothing to complain about. Just more ways to make it even better.

What an amazing outdoor season it's been! Now it's time to keep that momentum going.

**Here's the thing:** While other clubs take the summer off, Spartan Youth Soccer keeps training. We're the ONLY club in our area that runs a full development program through the end of October. That means your child will be getting better when everyone else is sitting on the sidelines. 💪

**SUMMER PROGRAM (JULY – OCTOBER)**

✅ 3 training sessions per week
✅ Professional certified coaching
✅ Coordinated scrimmages with other teams
✅ Skill development tailored to your child's level
✅ Full-body conditioning (hiking, cycling, endurance)
✅ Mental toughness & teamwork building

**PERFECT FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS:**

🟢 **New to soccer?** This is YOUR time! Get 4 months to train with the exact players who'll be on your team in the fall. Build confidence and skills before competitive play—no pressure, just growth.

🔵 **Already skilled?** Challenge yourself even more. Our training system develops tactical awareness, refines technique, and builds leadership. You'll come back stronger.

**HOW IT WORKS:**
Every session starts with all players warming up together, then we separate into skill-based groups. Your child trains with players at their level, getting personalized attention and the right challenge.
