If only we lived in a world where people were simply concerned about another person's health, and not actually steeped in toxic masculinity and patriarchy.
Image Description: Tri-colour image (orange, white and yellow) with black text that reads "Myth: Fatphobes are 'just concerned about your health' Fact: Fatshaming is never about positive health outcomes. It actually does the opposite, and results in negative physical and mental health outcomes". The lift and resist logo is at the bottom of the image.

We're moving! We will still be located in St Catharines, no worries for our local clients. The gym will be closed for just a couple weeks while we lug stuff around and set up our new space. So in saying that, what can we add to make you more comfortable? Let us know and we will try our best to accommodate it!

The holidays are almost here and we can feel the fatphobia ramping up.... (umm hello? Halloween is over! No spookiness pls). Thankfully there are also lots of helpful tips out there to try and survive this time of year. Here are ours! One we find especially helpful is making sure social media feeds reflects our needs. There are content creators out there for everyone. Here is a small list of people who you may find helpful if fatphobia is cause you harm (note that this list is smaller than the one on our instagram because FB is dying.... lmao).
Decolonizing Fitness

Virgie Tovar
Diets Don’t Work
Sonya Renee Taylor
Find Food Freedom
The Nutrition Tea
Accessibility note: Image of text on a a background of holiday cookies. Text reads “Getting through the holidays” followed by five suggestions and the Lift and Resist Logo. The suggestions are: If safe, set boundaries with friends, fam, and coworkers about food/diet talk as needed (see the amazing for responses); Eat what you want, when you want; Flood your social media with body liberatory content - see recommendations below; Show others what non-weight based/ appearance compliments can look like! (Eg - so glad to see you, you're so much fun to be around!); Whatever the holidays look like for you, take good care out there.

I don’t know about you folks, but I never heard this concept until about 10 years ago. And it wasn’t something I saw on TV or in a magazine. It was something that a dietitian told me during a 50 minute session. It was a message I would have to wait a whole week before I could hear it again at 10 am on a Tuesday. It’s hard to live and breathe this message when it really feels like a niche concept only discussed in the recovery community. The irony is that this belief that all bodies are inherently good is a value driven belief. So, it is absolutely true for people who value equality and the just treatment of all people. You really wouldn’t think that it would be such a controversial idea.

Hey, I'm Jenna (they/she) and I've been a personal trainer for almost two years now. I'm a parent, a former powerlifter and rower, and am passionate about challenging fatphobia and diet culture. I believe that fitness describes a lifelong relationship between the mind and body -- it isn't about what your body looks like or how it performs. My approach to personal training is weight-neutral and trauma-informed and I love to work with folks that feel uncomfortable in gyms or who have struggled to maintain a positive relationship with fitness. If you are hoping to reconnect with & find strength in your body, let's chat!

I'm currently accepting new clients so feel free to send us a dm or email me at [email protected]
