The Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association (SSA) is hosting a meeting this week-end, in Saskatoon, for the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations (CCSO). Representatives from all the provincial snowmobile associations in Canada will be in attendance.
A part of this gathering was the opportunity to do a bit of snowmobiling locally. Some members of this group used our Clubhouse and Yard, as a staging area, for a short ride on Friday, March 6th. This group had an enjoyable ride to Rosthern and back.
The group was in meetings all day on Saturday, then the majority of them planned to ride again Sunday, North of Prince Albert.

An intrepid crew of nine riders set off for Rosthern at 5:30pm on the last day of February with the sun high in the sky behind us. Trail conditions were fair near the clubhouse and improved somewhat as we made our way north. We made good time and arrived at the N40 to meet up with two more members. After a brief stop to defrost our helmets we mounted up for a slower second leg onto Rosthern. Our grooming crew had tried to get our trail in shape intime for the ride, but Mother Nature made other plans and the trail was blown in with many hard finger drifts. As one member chimed, “Someone really needs to take her out for dinner and a movie!”
The lights of Rosthern welcomed us and we enjoyed lively conversation, coffee and some snacks at our club sponsor the Rosthern Tim Hortons. One machine refused to start despite our best efforts but Jim Taman was quick to the rescue and brought a trailer to get the machine and rider back to the clubhouse. Two members rode home from Rosthern reducing our party to 8 for the ride home. We left Rosthern at 10:00pm with a full moon in the night sky and were back at the clubhouse by 11:30pm with a warm up at the N40 which was a welcomed relief as the temperature had dropped to – 22. Lots of smiles back a the clubhouse with many riders saying they’ll be back next year to do it all over again. Thank you to Matt McNabb for suggesting the ride and leading the gang and a big thank-you to Jim Taman for his assistance!
