🏊‍♀️ MEET COACH COLLEEN! 🏊‍♀️

Pre-competitive + Age Group Coach

Colleen’s love of swimming began at just six years old and continued through more than 11 years of club, high school and Masters swimming. She also brings experience coaching a variety of sports and a passion for helping young athletes build strong technique, improve their times and — most importantly — understand and enjoy the sport of swimming.

You may already know Colleen from the pool deck, as her daughter is currently part of our Stroke Development program!

Our Pre-Comp program is designed for swimmers ages 6–9 who can swim 25m independently and are ready to explore what competitive swimming is all about. Over 8 weeks, swimmers will build skills, confidence and familiarity with the world of swim meets in a fun, supportive environment.

We’re thrilled to have Colleen working with this group and can’t wait to see what our future Hammerheads accomplish! 🦈💙

Our Pre-Competitive Swim Program is back! Designed for swimmers ages 6–9 who are ready to take the next step and get a taste of competitive swimming.

📅 October 23 – December 14
⏰ 5:45–6:30 PM
🏊 Choose Mondays OR Fridays
💰 $240 for 8 weeks
✅ Must be able to swim 25m independently

With professional coaching, swimmers will build technique, endurance, confidence and competitive skills while learning what it’s like to train in a more competitive environment.

We are so grateful for the time, energy, knowledge, and encouragement you bring to the pool every week. The impact you make goes far beyond helping our swimmers become stronger athletes—you’re building confidence, resilience, friendships, and a love for the sport.

🦈 Meet the Coach: Coach Trent McNicol
Head Coach- Norfolk Hammerheads

With 31 years of coaching experience and an NCCP Level 2 certification, Coach Trent leads our senior athletes in the Gold, Gold Development, Train to Compete and Masters programs- and provides on-deck support for our 13 & over swimmers at meets.

He also mentors the NHAC coaching team to ensure our swimmers receive a seamless, supportive, and high-quality training experience from day one.

💬 Coach Trent’s Philosophy:
“The focus of our program will be on stroke techniques and swimmer development. We will encourage fitness and fun while working on the fundamentals of our sport. There is a lot of hard work in this sport- and with that comes confidence and a positive attitude.”

🏊‍♀️ MEET THE TEAM: ELLA 🦈💙

Meet Ella! At 13, she’s heading into her 5th season with the Hammerheads and is part of our Gold Development group!

When Ella was younger, her favourite part of swimming was her coach — shoutout to Coach Kay! As she’s gotten older, that love has shifted to competing at swim meets — the energy on deck, cheering on her teammates, and getting behind the blocks to see if she can beat her last time.

Last season, Ella discovered something else she loves… distance swimming! She took on her first 400m and 800m races and proved she’s always up for a challenge.

⭐ Favourite part of meets: The energy, her teammates & chasing a new best time
🌊 Newest challenge: Long-distance racing
💬 Advice for younger swimmers: Listen to your coaches — practices become way more fun!
