To you, wherever you are in your journey… 💜
If you are experiencing domestic abuse right now, please know that you are not alone. You do not deserve to be frightened, controlled, humiliated, threatened, or made to feel that you are somehow responsible for another person’s cruelty. You deserve safety, dignity, respect, and a life where you can breathe without fear.
If you are still in an abusive relationship, I want you to know that you do not have to be ready to leave today to deserve support today. Leaving is not always simple or safe. There may be children to protect, financial barriers, threats, fear, or a thousand reasons why your situation is complicated. You do not owe anyone an explanation for the time it takes you to find your way forward. Your safety matters, and so does your life.
If you have left an abusive relationship, but still find yourself looking over your shoulder, questioning your own memories, struggling to trust, or feeling the weight of what you endured, please be gentle with yourself. Leaving does not mean the pain disappears overnight. You may be rebuilding your confidence, your identity, your finances, your relationships, and your sense of peace, piece by piece. Healing is not a race, and you are not behind.
If you are rebuilding your life, even when nobody sees how hard you are trying, I hope you recognize your own courage. Every boundary you establish, every moment you choose yourself, every small step toward reclaiming your freedom matters. You do not have to be completely healed to be proud of how far you have come.
If you are watching someone you love experience abuse, please do not underestimate the power of your compassion. Listen without judgment. Believe them. Offer support without demanding that they make decisions before they are ready. Remind them that they are worthy of love that does not hurt, manipulate, threaten, or diminish them. Sometimes, knowing that one person is willing to stand beside them can make a world of difference.
If you have lost someone to domestic abuse, my heart goes out to you. There are losses that words cannot adequately hold. May you find space to grieve, people who understand, and moments of peace amid the pain. Their life mattered. Your grief matters. And their story deserves to be remembered.
And if you are reading this feeling alone, unheard, forgotten, or unsure where to turn, please pause for a moment and hear these words:
YOU MATTER.
You are more than what someone has done to you. You are more than the fear you have lived with, the things you have lost, or the wounds you are still learning to heal. You are a human being deserving of kindness, safety, connection, and hope.
You do not have to tell your story publicly. You do not have to prove your pain. You do not have to be strong every minute of every day. And you do not have to walk this road entirely on your own.
Domestic violence does not always leave visible bruises. Sometimes, the deepest wounds are the ones nobody else can see. That is why awareness must extend beyond what we witness to what we are willing to listen to, understand, and acknowledge.
This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let us remember those who are still surviving, those who have found their way out, those who are learning to live again, those standing beside a loved one, and those carrying the heartbreak of a loss that can never be undone.
Wherever you are in your journey, there is room for you here.
Through Ending Abuse Media, I am committed to raising awareness, amplifying the voices of those affected by abuse, encouraging meaningful action, and helping build a world where survivors are supported and future generations learn that love should never require someone to sacrifice their safety, dignity, or freedom.
I believe that awareness must lead to understanding, understanding must lead to action, and action must lead to change.
💜 You are seen. You are heard. You are worthy of safety. And you are not alone.
Together, we can break the cycle of abuse.
With compassion, understanding, and hope,
