One year ago I took my first lessons with Dan, just wanted to say thank you for teaching this amazing sport that I now enjoy weekly in this amazing place we call home! Thank you all! your support and help in this process is truly amazing! Amazing school and just super awesome crew! Here is a photo that my bud Sundance Topham took a few weeks ago in your little gem call #squamishbc
Thanks so much to k**e with all his good energy he got me to learn in just 6 hours amazing team of this company thanks.
Hey guys, We've been keeping our fingers crossed for the weather to change for the weekend but its looking like certain rain :( so unfortunately we're going to have to postpone the kite swap until the following weekend. We will still be taking in gear for the swap for the whole week.

Apologies and hopefully see you guys next weekend!
I wanted to send a special THANKYOU to Zack at Aerial Kiteboarding. He literally saved my life this past Saturday! This is my first Season, learning at "The Spit" in Squamish B.C.
This past Saturday was a gusty day and was my first "maiden" voyage after going through several weeks of lessons. What I found out Saturday however, was that it would have been well worth it to spend more time learning the "Self-rescue skill" properly. (Self-rescue, by the way, is a common task a kiteboarder must do if he is stuck in the middle of the body of water and can't launch his/her kite due to wind conditions, or due to injury etc). Well, being new to the sport, I managed to drift into a dead zone, and out of view of the Squamish lifeguards - so no one was around to pick me up. Well great I thought, now I can practice my self-rescue - the only problem was, I was using a new kiteboarding bar, which was different from the one I learned on. When I tried to depower the kite by twisting the safety release, the kite would not depower so I could not perform the self-rescue. I then made the mistake of thinking that if I was to release my safety strap (the last thing connecting you to the kite) the kite would depower. This was an INCORRECT (and stupid) assumption. The next thing I knew, my new core XR5 kite was scurrying off into the distance, and I was now stranded in the middle of the water basin, just with my board in hand. I was literally up sh$t creek without a paddle!

Fortunately, however, I had the foresight to buy a safety the day before from MEC, and the whistle was in my pocket! So I thought - no problem - I'll just whistle and someone will instantly come and rescue me... ya right people! After 15 minutes of whistling at the boats in the distance, I realized no one could really hear me.

Well, I guess I would be swimming to shore - IF that was even possible!

And then... there HE was - in the distance ZACK TO THE RESCUE! At first, his boat was not coming towards me, so I blew and blew my whistle, even in the the S.O.S. series of tweets but then he veered towards me and was on his way! With a mixture of sympathy and scorn, Zack thankfully hauled me into his craft - THANKS ZACK! You may have really just saved me from drowning!

So I wanted to say special thanks because despite being at the end a lesson, and onto his next, Zack decided to take time out, and save my life! He also helped me to collect my kite which was now about 200 meters on the other side of the basin. He then drove me back to shore!

Well, folks, that was my first maiden voyage! It was a bit traumatic, to say the least, but I must say, a good lesson. When you are solo on the water, don't expect that if you get stranded, someone will be there to pick you up! You will need to rely on your own safety skills to save yourself. It's obvious that I will need to go over my own safety skills before my next maiden voyage. I was fortunate this time because of Zack, The Hero, was a round to give me a lift!

Kiteboarding is SUCH an amazing sport, but after you learn how to Kite, there are also other things that are essential to know - 1) take a few extra lessons on Self Rescue, so in the heat of the moment, you can do it no probs... 2) if you are kiteboarding at the Spit, and are a beginner, best to go between 11am-2pm when the wind is solid and not gusty. 3) Avoid weekends as it is quite busy on The Spit then 4) Study Sailing and as much as you can about wind sports 5) GOLDEN RULE: Don't sail out farther than you are able to swim to shore! 6) stay within view of the Squamish Spit Crew, and if you find yourself drifting too far due to problems (like I did) do an early self-rescue
Yesterday I went kiteboarding. The best ever! Instead of going out on my own I took a lesson with Glen at Aerial Kiteboarding. He had me warm up with a12m kite and a large twin tip. (Light winds). Next switched to a strapless directional board. Got on it and rode the first attempt. Water started first time every time. Did not get the balance correct to go as fast as my twin tip board but could ride until I tried to turn. Certainly didn't get the carving corners sorted. It was fun and good to broaden my skill set. Wind kept dropping. Glen showed me light wind kite tricks. For the next hour I learned kite loops. I'm so excited. I feel like a kid that just learned to ride a 🚴. All my water starts were kite loop starts. As soon as I got going I would stop then water start with a kite loop again. Wind kept dropping. Glen said try a reverse loop (that's normal to start) start followed by a forward loop. Next add a reverse loop and a direction change. Or double loop starts. Eventually as the wind dropped only kite loops had enough power to keep me planing. Forward twice then backwards twice to untwist my lines. During the last 15 minutes I was the only kiteboarder with a kite in the air. When even loops couldn't keep me going there was only one kite on the spit. Glen even had me start a down loop, straighten the kite when it had turned straight down and then turn it the rest of the way around and up for more speed and power. I must have done more than 60 loops. Why didn't I try them before? They seemed so scary. Don't get me wrong, they are a very high power move. The winds were light so it was a perfect day to explore the power of kite loops. They are manageable if you steer toward the kite. It's like a drug and probably should be illegal. I was so exhausted I went to bed at 8:40!
Im excited for my day tomorrow (sunday the 30th) since its been about 10 years but I literally can NOT watch the mandatory video because it wont load ..... yet every other application will. I want to view it but dont want to pause every 30 seconds
Please please get a new server for the videos. It took well over an hour to watch the 40min "required" video .... I closed every other tab and application ... yet it still loaded worse then broadband
Hey Matis ! I enjoyed my kitesurfing lessons & most of all Thank you for being so patient with me

KITEBOARDING 101

Here are a few tricks for you to remember when taking your lessons!

Kiteboarding 101 trick #1: Everyone learns at their own pace! Some people will get up on the board on the first try, and some people will take 3 lessons before they can do it. Don’t get discouraged, and keep on trying it. You will get it for sure, and it will be the best feeling in the world!

Kiteboarding 101 trick #2: Learn how to have good control over your kite. Kiteboarding is 90% kite and 10% board. If you take the time to understand well how the kite works, it will make your life a whole lot easier.

Kiteboarding 101 trick #3: Have fun! It is the most important thing!

The Crash Course
Aerial Kiteboarding presents "The 4 hour Crash Course" it is a great way to figure out whether kiteboarding is for you or not. The first hour is an instructional video for you to watch at home. Usually, when taking kiteboarding lessons, your first lessons starts on the beach. For about an hour you talk to your instructor about the necessary theory you need to know. You learn about the wind, the right conditions and how to do a proper site assessment. We save you this time by sending you an instructional video. You can watch that video at home as many times as you like and the more you watch it the better prepared you will be. The remaining 3 hours are spent on the water. On your own, in a pair or with a group of 4 students and one instructor this is a fast-paced and exciting lesson. You will learn how to control the kite and if you feel comfortable enough you can try and get up on the board as well.
