When you go to surf the changing waves of your life, your dreams will give you balance. They will help you surf the big changes and flow into your "next". You can paddle near the shore of life or try to engage with the power of the wave and ride the BIG one. Your dreams will show you how.

Dreamwork is like a ride in a hot air balloon. You remember a dream or a fragment of one, write it down and instantly lift off into another world. What's that ahead? A castle? A Temple? You can set your balloon down anywhere and start exploring or you can soar above it and take in the bigger view/message from your dream. This is great when you are getting bogged down in too many dream details. Hop on the balloon and take it all in. Or...maybe you just stare at the orbs in the photo and wonder if they are just the light... or are they spirits, caught in your dream photo? Never a dull moment!

Writing down your dreams isn't just for remembering and keeping track of them, though that is important.

Did you know that dreams are maps to your soul? They are! I've often called them my iGPS, the "i" standing for INNER. But whether you relate to old-school maps or Google Maps, writing down your dreams, gives you the tools to find your way through everything from the dark-forest-of-your-soul-dreams to the teeth-falling-out-dreams to the what-you-watched-on-TV-last-night dreams, and everything in between.

For some, the desert is alive and teeming with life. For others it is empty, treeless, dead and boring. If this were your dream, would you notice the rocky path, the colours, or the purple mountain's majesty off in the distance? Would you notice the sky without clouds or that the sky isn't blue or would you notice the small shrubs dotting the landscape?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One dreamer's desert is empty and without activity, while another's is vibrant and full of life and activity. Which kind of dreamer are you?

It's the journey, not the destination. This woman is going somewhere. If it were your dream, what would this be about? Is it the warm and juicy colours? The phone in her hand? The backpack? The windows? When we project onto the dreams of others, just as in this exercise of imagination, then we learn some more about who we are and where we're headed. Play with a dream and you'll see what's important to you. Dreams matter.

Some dreams can feel “prickly” or even “bad” but If you look at dreams as an opportunity to learn something about yourself, then it's all good! Ya, some dreams can scare the heck out of you, and be frightening or disturbing, but I like to think of these as an invitation to dive deeper into knowing yourself. Author and dream worker, Jeremy Taylor used to say, "there is no such thing as a bad dream" and I couldn't agree more!

Repeat after me, "It's all good, it's all good".

Sometimes catching a dream is like casting your net into the sea of your unconscious to see what you can pull back out of your psyche's waters. You may catch an old boot in your net, or you may catch something you never imagined. You can throw your dream catch back or make it for dinner (let's hear it for dream/kitchen alchemy!)

How can you tell which symbols are important? Listen to your body. You will feel it. Off you go now.....

It depends where you put your eyes in a dream. Are you at the base of a building looking up? Or, are you looking out a window or standing on a balcony looking down? When you want a different point of view or another way of seeing your dream, especially when it feels difficult to understand, try imagining your dream from another vantage point or view.

If this photo were from your dream, you could walk around it. You may just see something different than you saw from the front view.

Have I mentioned that you can doodle your dreams? I'm sure I have talked about creativity in dreamwork. But I want to remind you that keeping it simple is valuable and "counts" as creative dreamwork. Use markers or a pen and think of your dream and doodle whatever comes out of your pen. No pressure to make something or produce a masterpiece. Just doodle it. Just do it.
