I started MyVideoGym to help my grandmother reverse her pre-diabetes diagnosis. She was advised by her doctor to lose at least five pounds and to lower her blood sugar. Achieving this through diet alone proved to be too challenging for her, as her sedentary lifestyle was contributing to the problem.
When she came to me for advice, I offered to start strength training her, because strength training is a great way to regulate blood sugar, make the body more sensitive to insulin, and lose weight. In addition, a carefully-regulated resistance workout plan would help strengthen her bones, and make her more mobile and independent.
We started training three times a week through video call, as this was the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A few months later my grandmother was no longer pre-diabetic. I've been training her through video call every week since then.
This type of behavior change is something I love seeing as a trainer. Adapting to a new routine and letting it become part of your daily life isn't easy, especially in the current global climate.
But it can be life changing.
