Bamboo Kung Fu-Choy Li Fut 蔡李彿. Good body mechanics equals good technique. Our philosophy: powerful kung fu techniques are good body mechanics or vice-versa.

Bamboo Kung Fu teaches a traditional Chinese martial art style called Choy Li Fut 蔡李彿拳. With over 30 year experience in kung fu, and as a registered massage therapist, RMT, Sifu Kin Sze combines his knowledge of modern movement science and traditional martial art techniques/wisdoms in his teachings. Understanding the optimal positioning of the body, hands, legs, everyone, children and adults alike, can effectively maximize mechanical leverage in movements and techniques.

Flashy high kicks won’t be effective if you cannot control your balance ❌️

It’s about being effectively anchoring one leg to the earth 🌎 while whipping the other leg as a weapon

True power and control – Glute activation 🍑

When you engage your glutes of the supporting leg, you lock your pelvis and latch your entire body to the ground like the root of a tree🌴

If you allow your glute to fall asleep, your kicking kinetic chain leaks, you lose power and you compensate with other parts of your body – your back, your thighs, your knees.

Don't get injured, wake up your glutes and maximize your kicking potential! 💢💥

Punching power is generated from the ground up. By pushing the feet off the ground, the ground rebound force is directed through a rigid, locked kinetic chain to the target through the hands.

The body is a kinetic chain - an assembly of body sections and limbs joined together like a chain.

Maximizing punching power is a coordination art, not muscle size. It is an art of staying relaxed and then bracing the whole chain just milliseconds before impact.

If you are practicing martial arts: kung fu, boxing, karate, taekwondo, kickboxing, any predominantly hand striking martial art styles, it is worth noting that your true power in your striking techniques comes from your legs and lower body structures pushing into the ground - ground rooting technique.

Generating power by driving your feet off the ground is an efficient, biomechanically sound way to generate a massive amount of power in your punching or hand striking techniques.

Instead of being led into flashy, acrobatic techniques, practicing ground technique is not flashy and sometimes can be frustrating. Once you achieve a breakthrough, the feeling is very rewarding, and the ingrained muscle memory will serve you well.
