Reporting to the Recreation or Aquatic Supervisor within one or more Recreation Centres, this position is responsible for the instruction and leading of participants in program and activities requiring specialized fitness instruction, both on-land and in-water. The certified instructor will lead the fitness classes as required by their certification governing body to provide participants with a safe, informative, progressive and effective fitness experience.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold and maintain up-to-date certifications and provide copies of these at the time of interview.
Current Fitness Certification (Personal Training (PTS), Group Fitness Instructor (FIS), Yoga, Pilates), as required by the discipline to be instructed.
Water Fitness Certification (CALA or similar).
Additional Specialized Certifications (Pre/Post Natal etc).
Relevant aquatic certification (Aqua Spin, Aqua Boot Camp).
Minimum of two (2) years of instructional experience in a related field.
Must possess and maintain current certification in “Standard” First Aid with CPR Level “C”. (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All “Standard” First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide “proof” that you possess the required certificate(s).
Proven knowledge of the theories and practices associated with the teaching of skills, technique and equipment used in fitness programs and according to the best practices and standards of their governing body.
Must be physically capable to demonstrate program techniques to the public in specified program area.
Must have the ability to work with varied age groups and abilities.
Note 1: Must be prepared to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends at various locations.
