When you're first starting out in freediving, one of the first things you need to learn is how to dive in a way that is safe. There are always risks involved in dropping deep into the ocean, especially when it's done without proper instruction and training on safety procedures.
One of the most important rules is to never freedive alone.
*Select an evenly matched partner who will be your safety diver and familiar with the safety and rescue procedures and is able to offer assistance when needed.
*Dive under direct observation of your dive buddy.
*One up, One Down - Never dive at the same time as your partner.

Safety Tip - Always have a surface flag with you while freediving.
Flags make you more visiblt to boat traffic while descending or ascending the surface.

What you eat can have a big impact on your freediving. Whether it is your ability to equalize, your breath-hold, or how quickly you recover from a freediving session, here are a few tips that might help.
1)Avoid mucus forming foods - dairy, sugar, caffeine, alcohol
2) Reduce foods that cause inflamation - gluten, refined carbs, aspartame
3)Consider supplements like iron, potassium, beetroot juice, probiotics

Although it can sometimes appear to be a male dominated sport, there are actually lots of women with world records and championships thriving in the industry!
On July 18th, 2021 Alice Modolo of France had a life-changing dive on the 5th day of the Vertical Blue freediving competition. Alice Modolo became the first French woman to ever set a world record in this sport. Modolo’s 95m dive took three minutes and 12 seconds in the discipline of constant weight bi-fins.
After her win she exclaimed, “In France, it has always been all about the boys, but perhaps now they will realize that the women are also strong, beautiful divers who have so much to contribute - they can learn quite a lot from us."
If you're a woman freediver looking for a community, more training, or just new friends to dive with, reach out!

Hi! For those of you who haven't met me yet, I'm Mike. I was born in Montreal and currently live in Toronto. I have been freediving since 2016 and have been an instructor since 2019.
What I love most about freediving is the relaxation and athletic components and how the skills developed underwater apply out of the water as well!
Hope to dive with you all soon!

Have you ever wondered how freedivers can hold their breath for so long and dive so deep?
Freediving is a diving technique that rests completely on the power of the human body, more specifically on the human breath. We train our lungs and breath to be able to hold our breath longer underwater. The training also incorporates other physical and mental exercises to keep you fit and healthy.
