𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐨 𝐀 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 & 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫: 𝐌𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫
When I found out my grandfather had passed last week, I couldn’t stop thinking about the words he said to me often...
He said that when he dies, if he ever gets a chance to come back, he would never come back as a black man.
Not because he hated his beautiful melanated skin, but because of the way society treated him as a result of it.
He had been held at gun point, prevented from moving in to certain neighborhoods, and told that he would never amount to anything.
My grandfather proved them wrong, and went on to achieve his PhD in organic chemistry. He was a key player in breaking the cycle of generational poverty due to racism.
My grandfather was brilliant and devoted to his family. I think back to how he use to *try* teach me calculus at the age of 7 (math is not my strong suit) and have me memorize the names of various chemical compounds he had synthesized in his work.
He set a new bar for all of us to strive for, and for that, I am eternally thankful.
My grandfather was a good man. He was not always the softest or gentlest in his approach, but who could blame him? I can only imagine the internal scars and magnitude of trauma he had personally experienced in his 93 years as a black man on this planet.
My grandfather loved his family fiercely. I’m heart broken by his death, and the current state of the world only amplifies that, as I know how directly he was impacted.
Despite this, I gain solace in knowing that he is finally at peace, and with my grandmother - his wife of almost 70 years.
I had originally ended this tribute with “Rest in Peace”, but realized that there really is no peace until justice is rightfully served for my people.
So,
Rest in Power, Grandpa✊🏽🖤

HOW TO GET GLOWING, HEALTHY SKIN! [LINK IN BIO]
Staying active helps me keep my body on point, but unfortunately the frequent sweat sessions don’t do my skin any favours😣
This is something I battled with for years, especially in the crazy cold Canadian winters… that along with the drying affect of sweaty workouts left my skin in MAJOR need of TLC💦
It took some trial and error, but I’ve figured out a pretty solid routine that helps keep my skin hydrated, clear, and glowing year round🥰
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏 𝟏: Wash with a gentle cleanser (avoid anything with harsh ingredients like sulphates) and double cleanse with an oil based cleanser FIRST if you wear make up
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏 𝟐: Tone with a hydrating solution like witch hazel mixed with rose water
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏 𝟑: Use a rich, creamy moisturizer
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏 𝟒: LOCK IN the moisture with a high quality oil with natural ingredients that won’t clog your pores (this is a CRUCIAL step to maintaining a glowy hydrated complexion all day long!)
For the last month, I’ve been using the “I Am Love” illuminating facial oil for my step 4 and I’m in love with the results 😻 Any facial oil that gives me glowing skin without the greasy look is a keeper in my books 🙌
And to celebrate , is offering 50% off the entire site until 11:59PM 😱😱😱
Definitely grab the facial oil and the detox me mask if hydration and breakouts are an issue for you!
What do you do to keep your skin healthy and hydrated?

‼️The NUMBER ONE thing you need to make your results last‼️
💭Imagine for a second that you’ve made the decision to finally invest in yourself and do whatever it takes to get in the BEST shape of your life…
✅You have a tried and true method to follow, a coach to push you forward, and the determination to see the process through to the end. And truth be told, if you have those 3 things in place, you’re EXTREMELY likely to nail your fitness goals, but the big question is…
❓How do you maintain it?
You can grit your teeth through a quick fix solution to reach your goals, but if you don’t have the habits and knowledge to maintain it, you’ll eventually end up RIGHT back where you started. And if you don’t believe me, Google “Biggest Losers - Where are they now?” for a case in point😳
💪🏽Yes, I achieved the physical results I wanted in a matter of months, but it took YEARS to develop the habits and lifestyle that have allowed me to maintain a sustainable approach to nutrition and fitness. The journey is really about your body AND mind, and they BOTH need time to develop into the fitness badass you know you can be👊🏽
💕So try your best to be patient with yourself so that you can get the results you’re after AND maintain them for life 🤸🏽♀️

How do you maintain it?
I struggled with this a lot in the past, and usually found myself operating in extremes. I’d start of HARD CORE trying to eat perfectly “clean” food” and NEVER missing a workout, which lasted all of 2 or 3 weeks... then I’d cave in (of course) and go off the deep end into MONTHS of skipped workouts and eating like an as***le.
It was madness.
I couldn’t seem to figure out a balance between living life and staying on track with my fitness goals. It took me years to realize that the big issue was that my approach was ALL wrong. I was always chasing the fastest route to whatever fitness or body goal I was after.
And guess what? I learned that you CAN, in fact, crash diet your way to a result. But the problem with this is that it will never last until you get your LIFESTYLE to a place where it needs to be to allow you to maintain your results.
You can grit your teeth through a quick fix solution to reach your goals, but if you don’t have the habits and knowledge to maintain it, you’ll eventually end of RIGHT back where you started. And if you don’t believe me, Google “Biggest Losers - Where are they now?” for a case in point.
