Congratulations to Truro Junior 'A' Bearcats goaltender Sam Berthiaume, named to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, set for August 3rd to 8th at Rogers Place and the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton, AB.

The Truro Sr. Bearcats are proud to announce the signing of 6'3" defenceman Matt Donnelly from Barrie, Ontario!

Donnelly brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the Bearcats' blue line. A former Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and Drummondville Voltigeurs defenceman in the QMJHL, Matt also spent two standout seasons with the Truro Bearcats of the MHL, giving local fans another chance to watch him in a Bearcat uniform.

During his junior career in Truro, Donnelly appeared in 87 regular season games, recording 32 points (5 goals, 27 assists) while establishing himself as one of the league's toughest defenders. He followed that with four seasons of collegiate hockey, first at Portage College before moving to Nipissing University, where he produced 25 points in 49 U SPORTS games and continued to earn a reputation as a reliable, physical two-way defenceman.

Standing 6'3", Donnelly combines size, strength, and experience with a steady defensive presence. His leadership, physical style, and ability to log big minutes make him a major addition to the Bearcats as the club continues to build toward another championship season.
