The Afterlife Series is about one thing: real conversations surrounding the realities of life after competitive skating. This week, we chat with Jenna Longo, a former synchronized skater for Haydenettes (Team USA). Jenna inspires us not only as a synchronized skating legend, but as an athlete and businesswoman. She now works as a tax accountant for a hedge fund in the Big Apple, but stays involved in skating through U.S. Figure Skating!

Our favourite highlight? Talking about Jenna's expertise in winter AND summer sports!

TEC is beyond excited to announce our next guest for : Jenna Longo!
-
This legend is one of the most recognized synchronized skaters to come from Team USA, representing Haydenettes () at numerous world championship events!
-
We can’t wait to talk synchro in North America and around the 🌎, transitioning into a big city after competition, and growing beyond the sport. Join the conversation by leaving a question for Jenna!

The Afterlife Series is about one thing: real conversations surrounding the realities of life after competitive skating. This week, we chat with Krista Bussi, the CEO of Floquiya. Krista reminds us that multiple "Afterlife" moments happen throughout our careers, and she helps us unpack the future of e-commerce and pro-skating during the current pandemic.

Our highlights? Talking about our "what" and "why" realizations, and redefining "failure"!

A note from Krista:
Feel free to reach out if you are a skater going through a transition or unsure what your life could look like after sports. I would be happy to keep the conversation going and offer insight based on my personal experiences. My personal e-mail: [email protected].

Please check out Floquiya and use coupon code TEC25 for 25% off your purchase!

The Afterlife Series is about one thing: real conversations surrounding the realities of life after competitive skating. For the final segment of our sit down with Elvis Stojko and Gladys Orozco-Stojko we tackle some heavy topics: failures that we cherish, advice from a casting director on the audition process for pro-skaters, and how to navigate the "Afterlife" with grace and decorum when things get tough. We also get a surprise visit from Isis, one of the Stojko's three cattle dogs!

The "Afterlife" advice we cherish the most? Take nothing personally and ask for help. Work on yourself, stay in your lane, and trust the process!

The Afterlife Series is about one thing: real conversations surrounding the realities of life after competitive skating. For this segment, we sit down with Elvis Stojko and Gladys Orozco-Stojko to answer some fan questions! We talk about the best innovations in skating equipment, 2A technique, and choreography!

Our favourite part? Seeing Elvis Stojko's boots from the 1991 world championships where he became the first skater to land a quad in combination in competition!

The Afterlife Series is about one thing: real conversations surrounding the realities of life after competitive skating. For our premiere, we sit down with Elvis Stojko and Gladys Orozco-Stojko to get real about a few things: identity beyond skating, pinpointing their "Afterlife" moment, and discussing the importance of mental health post-competition.

Our takeaways? The Matrix & Mexican proverbs! "Know thyself" and "don't become a donkey full of medals!"

Two more days until we skate! ❄️
-
Before then, we have one last (but not least) Women of TEC member to introduce. Meet TEC co-founder, Becky Tyler (@mmbecky)! 💋
-
SKATING BACKGROUND:
Mississauga Motion 2000-2010
Nexxice Senior 2010-2016
2015 World Champion, 3x World Silver Medalist, 5x National Champion, WOS Skate Canada Hall of Fame Inductee
-
FAV CHOREOGRAPHER(S): Marie-France Dubreuil (@mf_dubreuil) & Sandra Bezic (@sandra_bezic).
-
GO-TO STYLE: Fosse / Burlesque / Contemporary
-
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD ON THE ICE: Edges and fast skating.
-
FAV WARM-UP SONG: Anything that gets my heart pumping and my body moving.
-
WHY WE BELIEVE TEC IS NECESSARY: It’s about damn time someone created an opportunity for elite skaters to continue moving and expressing ourselves in a collaborative atmosphere.
-
WHY WE SKATE: You get to a certain point in your life when being on the ice becomes more of a privilege than it ever felt like before. Skating has the ability to seriously turn my days around and transport me to my happy place. I will take any and every opportunity I have to lace ‘em up even if it’s just for a few minutes just because I know I’ll be filled with all the good vibes after I do.
-
WHAT WE DO WHEN WE AREN’T SKATING: When we aren’t skating? In my bed! It’s rare to find me not at the rink lol BUT I’m also a Pilates instructor and soon-to-be JOGA coach, so you’d most likely find me doing some sort of physical activity or being a nerd and learning more about exercise science/biomechanics.

-
SKATING BACKGROUND:
- Gold Ice (@goldicesynchro)(Juvenile, Novice, Junior): 2003 - 2011
- Phoenyx (Senior): 2010
- Xcellence (Senior): 2012
- NEXXICE (@nexxicesr) (Senior), 2013 - 2015, 2017
- 4x National Champion; 3x World Medallist; 2015 World Champion
- Professional Figure Skater: ISF Productions (Busch Gardens Williamsburg, VA; CNE, Toronto), and Dynamic Shows (Volkswagen Autostadt, Wolfsburg, Germany)
- Diamond Dances
- WOS Skate Canada Hall of Fame Inductee
-
FAV CHOREOGRAPHER(S): Sandra Bezic; Lyne Forget; Anne Schelter; Brian Friedman; Travis Wall; Simone Grigorescu-Alexander; Adam Blake.
-
GO-TO STYLE: Contemporary (give me rhythm and lyrics); Ballet (give me liiiiines); Waltz (give me romance); Swing (give me tricks).
-
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD ON THE ICE: EDGES - make it glide and make it curve. Holding a beautiful edge or position.
-
FAV WARM-UP SONG: Depends on the day, but right now: “Move Your Body” by @siamusic or “Hot Blood” by @officialkaleo.
-
WHY WE BELIEVE TEC IS NECESSARY: I didn’t feel like being a synchronized skater in the professional skating world was given its proper value. We don’t always send in reels with the “right” type of skating skills to be given a fair shot, so my inspiration was to create an inclusive platform where all forms of skating were given equal weight. I also hope that TEC inspires a place where learning and performing work hand-in-hand.
-
WHY WE SKATE: Skating represents a beautiful intersection between art and athleticism. Nothing makes me feel happier than a good song, cool air on my face, full body movement, and glide… except doing that with a group of people! Also, how Canadian is skating?!
-
WHAT WE DO WHEN WE AREN’T SKATING: I’m studying to teach English as a foreign language! I also love finding new music and watching a good movie.
