One of the hardest conversations I have with new clients is this:

đź’› You may need to eat more, not less.

I know that sounds backwards.

Because for years we’ve been told:

➡️ Eat less.
➡️ Burn more calories.
➡️ Work harder.

But menopause changes the rules.

As estrogen declines, your body becomes less efficient at building and protecting muscle.

And muscle is one of the biggest drivers of your metabolism.

When you consistently under-eat, your body doesn’t simply burn more fat.

It protects itself.

It slows down.

It breaks down muscle to meet its energy needs.

And over time, that means your metabolism has less muscle to support it.

This isn’t permission to eat everything.

It’s permission to stop fearing food.

Your body needs:

✔️ Enough protein
✔️ Enough energy
✔️ Strength training
✔️ Recovery

Not because you’re trying to “bulk up.”

Because you’re trying to preserve the muscle, metabolism, and independence that become so important during midlife.

One of the most rewarding moments as a coach is watching a woman realize she doesn’t have to starve herself to become healthier.

She simply needs a strategy built for the body she has today.

Most women don’t struggle because they lack motivation.

They struggle because they lack structure.

I see it all the time.

A woman starts a program.
She’s excited.
Determined.
Ready for change.

She goes all in.

Then life happens.

Work gets busy.
Sleep gets disrupted.
Someone gets sick.
A stressful week hits.

And suddenly she’s missed a workout.

Then another.

Then comes the guilt.

Then the feeling that she’s failed again.

So she waits until Monday.
Or next month.
Or after the holidays.

And the cycle starts over.

What breaks that cycle isn’t more willpower.

It’s having a plan that fits your life.

It’s knowing exactly what to do when you wake up.

It’s having workouts that don’t take an hour.

It’s having support when motivation disappears.

It’s having a community that reminds you you’re not the only one struggling.

The women who become consistent aren’t different.

The fitness industry has convinced women that success comes from doing more.

More workouts.
More intensity.
More sweat.
More suffering.

But menopause changes the conversation.

Your body is managing hormonal shifts, changing recovery needs, disrupted sleep, and often higher levels of stress.

What worked at 30 may not work at 50.

The women I see getting the best long-term results aren’t the ones pushing hardest.

They’re the ones who show up consistently.

Three strength workouts this week.

A walk after dinner.

Protein at meals.

A reasonable bedtime.

Then repeating that next week.

And the week after that.

Moderate.
Structured.
Sustainable.

That’s where the magic happens.

Not because it’s flashy.

Because it’s repeatable.

If you’re working out more but feeling worse, this is worth paying attention to.

In menopause, the body doesn’t always respond well to more intensity, more cardio, and less recovery.

The goal is not to destroy yourself in every workout.

The goal is to build strength, protect muscle, support bone density, improve energy, and recover well enough to keep showing up.

Walking might be one of the most underrated tools we have in midlife.

Not because it burns the most calories.

But because it supports so much more.

And honestly?

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing WHAT to do…

It’s doing it consistently.
