September is the new January
We think about the new year as a time to start something new....new habits, new projects....the kids start a new school year. A new schedule for everyone
But...
When's the last time you learned something new? Learning new things, whether it’s a new language or finally understanding why your shoulder does that thing in our Pilates Core+More class, isn’t just satisfying. It’s transformative!
I feel like we already intuitively know this, but Research from Carnegie Mellon University confirms that our brains are wired to pay attention when something feels meaningful.
Learning is good for your brain. I call it the anti-Alzheimer's method! Here's more info:

1. Newness lights up the brain.
Moments that matter (like aha-moments in yoga!) form sharper memories and deeper learning. That is one of the reasons yoga asks you to attend to the practice and notice your own experience, not just follow someone else because they are doing something. As I often say in class, "practice with your eyes closed"

Dinner two weeks ago? Forgettable.

That one cue that finally made sense of your hips in Warrior II? Unforgettable. Learning how our own body moves, has huge insights. But not just the physical aspects

2. Meaningful movement changes us.
The brain only rewires when there’s something worth learning. If a stimulus isn’t reliable (like inconsistent feedback or unclear instructions), the brain tunes it out.

This is where I have to shamelessly plug Connected Living Yoga because this is SO MANY of the reasons behind how we teach our classes and programs. Your brain says "Hey! This matters, I'm going to pay attention."

3. Learning yoga is more than physical.
Your brain wants to connect the dots.
Just like we know dark clouds = rain = umbrella, your brain starts to associate mindful movement = strength = resilience = stress reduction = knowledge = wisdom.

So it's not enough just to learn something new, but to learn things that feel meaningful and relevant. This is why we love teaching yoga and movement because it is so tangible when we learn new things, we can immediately feel the difference in our body and that's so huge!
....Move AND Learn

Marilyn walked into her first class not knowing a soul. Here’s what kept her coming back.

“From the moment I walked in, the ladies here made me feel welcome. No judgment, no cliques, just a group of women who genuinely want to see each other feel good. I came for the yoga. I stayed for the community.”

This is the heart of Connected Living. A room full of people who make space for you, exactly as you are.

Come meet them. Your first class is free. Link in our bio.

Something new is starting, and it was built for beginners.

Introducing the 7 Week Intro. A small cohort for anyone who has wanted to try yoga but never knew where to begin. Seven weeks, one steady group, and a doable, judgment free way to begin. No experience needed. No flexibility required. No pressure to keep up. Just a clear path from your very first class to feeling at home on the mat. Here is how it works. Each week builds on the last, starting with the basics of breath and posture and growing into a short practice you can carry on your own. You learn the foundations inside a group that is right there with you.

Spots are limited so the group stays small and supportive.
