Urgent Wildfire Update: 128 Active Fires, 15 Out of Control - Northern Squamish Urged to Heighten Preparedness

Recent updates from provincial authorities have highlighted a sobering reality: there are currently 128 active wildfires listed in the province of British Columbia, with 15 of them burning out of control. While we may not have any immediate threat of wildfires in our region, this should serve as a wake-up call for us all to take proactive measures to ensure our community's safety and resilience.

While North Squamish may not currently be facing an active wildfire threat, we must not become complacent. The unpredictability of wildfires means that we must be prepared for any eventuality. This includes supporting our local emergency responders, such as the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society.

The Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. As the primary sponsor of the Brigade, Paradise Trails has been instrumental in providing the resources and support necessary for the Brigade to fulfil its mission effectively.

Now, more than ever, we need the support of every member of our community to bolster the capabilities of our fire brigade. There are several ways you can contribute:

1. Donate: Consider making a monetary donation to the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society. Your contributions will directly support training, equipment upgrades, and other essential initiatives to enhance our community's wildfire preparedness.

2. Sign the Petition: Show your support for Paradise Trails and the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society by signing the petition advocating for the approval of the Eco-village project to ensure continued funding and resources. Every signature counts in demonstrating the importance of wildfire mitigation and emergency response efforts in our community.

3. Spread Awareness: Share this message with your friends, family, and neighbours. Encourage them to join you in supporting our fire brigade and preparing for the wildfire season ahead.

As residents of North Squamish, we have a shared responsibility to protect our community and ensure its resilience in the face of natural disasters. By rallying together and supporting our local fire brigade, we can strengthen our defences and safeguard what matters most to us – our homes, families, communities, and our way of life.

The threat of wildfires is real, but so too is our capacity to mitigate it through collective action and community support. Let us seize this opportunity to come together and build a safer, more resilient North Squamish for generations to come.

Fort Nelson Wildfire: A Wake-Up Call for Northern Squamish

Fort Nelson, BC - As the wildfire situation in Fort Nelson escalates, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of being prepared and supporting those who protect us from such disasters. It is imperative that we take swift and decisive action to protect our forests and communities. As we face the looming threat of wildfires, there is no better time than now to rally behind the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society and support their vital efforts in safeguarding our community.

The Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society stands as our first line of defence against the ravages of wildfires. Composed of dedicated volunteers who selflessly commit their time and resources to protecting our community, the Brigade is set up to play a pivotal role in emergency response, fire prevention, and community outreach.

With wildfires becoming increasingly prevalent and severe this season, the need for a well-equipped and adequately funded fire brigade has never been more urgent. Your support to the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society will directly support essential initiatives such as:
1. Training and Equipment: Ensuring that our volunteer firefighters receive the training and equipment necessary to effectively combat wildfires and respond to emergencies with confidence and competence.

2. Community Outreach and Education: Empowering residents with the knowledge and resources they need to mitigate fire risks, create defensible spaces around their communities, and develop comprehensive evacuation plans.

3. Enhanced Preparedness and Response Capabilities: Strengthening the Brigade's capacity to rapidly mobilize resources, coordinate emergency responses, and collaborate with local authorities to safeguard lives and property.

It is worth noting that Paradise Trails, a major sponsor of the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society, plays a pivotal role in funding and sustaining the Brigade's operations. By supporting Paradise Trails, you are directly contributing to the protection and resilience of our community in the face of wildfire threats.

How You Can Help

SQUAMISH-BASED WRITER/JOURNALIST NEEDED

We are looking for a writer/journalist to manage our public relations in Squamish and possibly, community engagement at the same time. You might be interested in one or the other or both.

We are in the process of getting approvals for an 82-lot equestrian community in the Upper Paradise Valley and we are having problems with the District of Squamish. Our property was zoned in 2012 and the District is now attempting to take away our zoning after doing a gigantic amount of work on the project since 2021. In fact, they told us they would not take away the zoning if we applied for particular permits by the 11th of March, 24 but are not reneging on that written statement.

The writer we work with will help us to raise public awareness about how the District is not dealing fairly. If you believed the community engagement role fitted what you wanted to do, you would journey to Squamish and build our community engagement strategy.

At the same time, we are trying to build a wildfire-fighting capacity in Paradise Valley and on the Cheekeye reserve working hand and glove with Squamish Natives with whom we have a close relationship.
We want to promote that effort as well. In summary, we need help with newspaper articles, social media, going to the farmers market and telling people about the wildfire project and going door to door in some specific location. The role of community relations could be split from journalism and press releases.

If you have an interest in specific aspects of helping with what we need could you apply in the following manner?
