These days Iāve been trying to focus a bit more on prioritizing my self and finding again the things that bring me joy.
The transition into motherhood has felt depleting and isolating and itās been a journey of trying to put myself back together. It can be so easy to loose myself in the day to day of caring for a family. And as much as I am grateful everyday for this opportunity and the beautiful being in my life, I have had to face some very hard realities within myself. So itās become apparent that caring for myself is crucial in feeling truly fulfilled.
And so Iāve been implementing ways to stay grounded and contemplating on what brings me pleasure in the day to day. And Iāve been using Sanctuary Tea blend to get me inspired. So Iām cooking up something fun to share with folks in Vancouver *hint* weāll be talking about pleasure baby š
While I get organized to share more about this upcoming event, grab yourself a cup of Sanctuary Tea and here are some things that bring joy and pleasure into my life. A reminder to myself that pleasure and joy isnāt a luxury but a crucial part of living as a human being.
1: La Artemisia Sanctuary Tea
2: The Birth of Venus by Adolphās Bouguereau 1879
3: roses in the summertime seabirds singing in the background
4: roses and furs
5: smelling sweet roses
6: frolicking in nature with my baby boy
7: hot baths filled with herbs
8: rose buds in the dead of winter

Stove top brews of roots and barks and seeds and berries is for me, a cherished ritual for the turning of the seasons and a source of nourishment throughout the winter months. This really feels like kitchen witchin at its finest. So if you want to connect with your inner witch, get a pot out put some herbs and water in it and await the delightful aromas that will fill your home.
In the practice of herbal medicine we call this preparation a ādecoctionā.
āØWhat is a decoction?
This is a herbal preparation using water to extract the medicinal components of the plants. And we typically use a decoction to prepare a tea using roots, barks, seeds, and berries. Since these parts of the plants are tougher than flowers or leaves they require a bit more time in the water and heat to extract their medicine
āØHow to make a decoction?
1. Add all the herbs to your pot. Typically we use 1tbsp of herb per cup. But Iām a dash of this, a pinch of that, and a handful of this kind of woman! Experiment and have fun.
2. Add cold water to pot and bring to a boil.
3. Turn the heat down and simmer, covered, for about 20 minutes minimum. But I like to brew my herbs for longer.
4. Strain and enjoy. You can refrigerate your decoction and enjoy it for up to 3 days. Some folks love to re-brew the herbs, but I say go for it!!
āØMy favourite decoction right now is an Immune Chaga Chai:
Chaga
Astragalus
Fresh ginger
Cinnamon bark
Cardamom pods
Fennel seeds
Star Anise
Cloves
Black pepper corns
Variations: Iāve been adding D**g Quai in my luteal phase for blood building and recently ran out of Astragalus so just put in some Dandelion root because I had some.
Get creative and enjoy some plant magic šŖ šš. Let me know in the comments on you try this brew or let me know whatās brewing in your cauldron this season.

{{ The rose }}
:: These hands have touched the thorns of unwelcoming brambled cages.
These ears have heard the cries of a lost child in the night.
These eyes have seen blood spilt and soaked up by red earth.
This tongue has tasted the bitterness of contempt in the heart.
And yet it was promised that one day, on the winds of change, I should smell the sweet scent of roses once again ::

For at least 8 years now I have been in deep relationship with the beauty of rose. I have picked her petals with reverence. I have carefully navigated her thorns. I have soaked her in brandy and drank her medicine. I have dropped golden honey over her petals to preserve her sweetness for months to come. I have anointed my body with her oil. I have been submerged in many baths filled with her beauty. I have added rose petals to every tea blend you can image. We have danced together for all this time. And every cycle of the sun, every cycle of my life she teaches me again and again and more deeply.
I have always known rose to be a heart opening medicine, elevating our vibration, dispelling anger and soothing the deep wells of grief. And yes she has done this for me in various ways and in subtle ways. However, as this cycle of my life has been unfolding she has shown me how powerful her softness can truly be.
As I have navigated some of the most difficult terrain of my life (apparently Pluto has been transiting my moon) being thrown to the deepest grief and sadness I have ever known. I have been asked to transform, to shed old patterns and to recalibrate the way I relate to love, to myself, to my dear ones. It has been extremely tough and I have felt so much anger and have felt so hardened by it all. It has been hard at times to see the beauty in myself and in others. And so I turned to rose. I began taking her medicine (the Rose Elixir that I make), daily in my water bottle. I carried her everywhere. And she has taught me so much about releasing about shifting perspectives and about feeling open to love again. She is sooo healing to the nervous system and cools the heat in the heart and in the liver. Continued in commentsšš¼

Itās been awhile since Iāve shared anything on this page so just want to pop in and say hello, itās summer!!! Having my birthday in mid mid June this time always feels like my spirit wants to come alive again. I am so grateful for the budding life that comes with this time of year- the roses that seem to always pop up around my birthday and the warming sun that is there to kiss my olive skin.
I am also grateful for this beautiful exchange with , beautiful artist woman, ceremonialist, and fellow mama. This transition into motherhood hasnāt been an easy one for me. And in the process I have felt extremely disconnected from myself and as a result it has felt difficult to share myself with the wider community. Iāve been trying to lean into the importance, however, of being āveiledā during potent transformational and initiatory periods of life. And so as the land begins to bloom and grow again, inspiring me to do so as well, I am really grateful for this opportunity to be seen and witnessed, among the wildflowers, among my beloved wild roses, with my sweet child. And now to be able to share these moments with you all.
Thanks Nevee and thank you to all of you who have continued to be present in my life as āBecoming Motherā moulds me, transforms me, and births me into this new stage of life.
