Louie Cyr, the Strongest man EVER!
Born in Cyprien-Noé Cyr, Quebec Monsieur Cyr lived in poverty. At age 12 he started working at a lumber camp. This is where Cyr discovered his exceptional strength, impressing his fellow workers.
From 1883 to 1885, Cyr served as a police officer in Montreal, Quebec. Following this he went on tour with a troupe that included a wrestler, a boxer, and a weightlifter. He entered a strongman competition in March 1886, at Quebec City, against the reigning Canadian strongman, David Michaud.
Cyr lifted a 218-pound (99 kg) barbell with one hand (to Michaud's 158 pounds or 72 kg) and a weight of 2,371 pounds (1,075 kg) on his back, to his opponent's 2,071 pounds (939 kg) to win the title of strongest man in the country.
His daughter Émiliana Cyr performed with Louie for a period of time!
She performed remarkable feats of strength alongside her father, lifting 306 pounds off the ground with two hands, 154 pounds with one hand, and 89 pounds with only one finger. She also demonstrated one-arm presses with a weight of 33 pounds. Incredibly, she went on to lift 333 pounds off the ground with two hands later that year.
