The grassroots Christmas poem

Down the chimney I come with a bump.
"This is a football fan's house," I say with a hump.

I can see the football stocking hung with care,
And the football trophies—there is no room to spare.

The bedsheets are donned in red and white stripes,
And I smile to myself, just knowing their types.

So I look at my list to see what presents to lay:
Football boots, shin pads, and a signed shirt display.

This is definitely a football-mad child’s list,
And I smile to myself for filling their wish.

Looking at them snuggled up in their bed,
Dreaming of shooting and scoring in their head.

I place a new football into their stocking,
And imagine them playing come Christmas morning.

I smile to myself and remember the days
Before the red suit and presents in sleighs—

Playing football on the weekends with all of my team.
Yes, Santa played grassroots too, living the dream.
