Everyoneâs reacting to Mariahâs âHeroâ performance⌠but most people are missing whatâs really happening in her body.
Weâre witnessing a legendary artist bravely managing her instrument in real time, with so much heart.
Notice the upper body tension.
The protective posture.
The visible effort and care.
The moment-by-moment vocal choices.
None of us knows whatâs happening in her private world or body right now.
Voices can shift for so many tender reasons:
⢠Chronic tension and protective muscle patterns
⢠Nervous system stress and performance pressure
⢠Medication side effects, hormones, or natural aging
⢠Grief, exhaustion, burnout, or emotional load
⢠Decades of vocal use and the weight of expectations
The higher the love and standards placed on you, the more vulnerable singing live can feel â especially when the world constantly compares you to your younger self.
Mariah has carried that spotlight with grace for over 35 years.
This brings up an important question:
Would you rather hear
đ¤ authentic, imperfect LIVE vocals
or
đ heavily produced lip-synced perfection?
Many say they want ârealââŚ
yet it can be hard to hold space when a beloved artist sounds human and vulnerable.
The voice is never just technique.
Itâs physiology, psychology, identity, emotion, stress, healing, and deep humanity.
⨠The voice is a mind-body-soul instrument.

Stop âđź Singing from your Diaphragm!
No. You donât âsing from your diaphragm.â
You sing from a system, and hereâs why that old advice keeps you stuck. Most singers try to control a muscle they canât even feel.
The real trick is to organize your breath and your whole body so your throat and nerves stop taking over.
With my Core Breathing method, I integrate proven breathing principles to retrain your entire system. This helps you release unnecessary force, gain true trust in your voice, and sing with genuine freedom.
If you've explored countless methods and still feel held back, this fundamental shift could be your breakthrough.

Stop picking vocal coaches just because they can out-sing you.
Their real job is to help you sing with freedom, confidence, clarity, and consistency.
So the question isnât: âCan they sing?â
ďż˝Itâs: âCan they help me understand my voice?â
If youâve ever felt stuck or frustrated because singing advice makes you more confused⌠this is for you.
Which matters more to you in a coach - be brutally honest:
đĽ incredible singingďż˝orďż˝đŻ incredible teaching?
Comment âđĽ singingâ or âđŻ teachingâ below â and tell me why you chose it!
Do you actually need a vocal coach⌠or can you DIY? Some singers CAN improve on their own for a while.
If youâre experimenting, growing, and feeling freer in your voice, you may not need coaching yet.
But if youâre stuck in the same issues for monthsâŚstraining, overthinking, hating your recordings, or feeling disconnected from your sound, thatâs usually where outside feedback changes everything.
A good coach hears the patterns you canât hear yourself and helps singing feel clearer in your body.
âWhat helped you improve the MOST: practice alone or feedback from someone else?
Most singers choose coaches based on one thing:
âCan they sing?â
But teaching is a completely different skill.
A great vocal coach should help your brain and body understand what to do â not leave you overwhelmed, dependent, or doubting yourself after every lesson.
The right coach gives you clarity instead of confusion.
Whatâs the BEST or WORST thing a vocal teacher ever said to you?

Comparison can make you think your voice is the problem.
đŤ¤But sometimes that tight, sinking feeling you get when you hear another singer isnât proof that youâre not good enough. Itâs showing you something.
Maybe you admire their confidence.
Maybe you want their freedom.
Maybe you wish you could stop holding back the way they seem to.
That doesnât mean youâre failing. It means thereâs a part of you that wants to grow.
đĽThe danger is when envy turns into self-punishment.
Instead of using another singerâs voice as evidence against yourself, use it as direction.
đ¤Ask yourself:
What do I admire about them? What quality am I ready to develop in myself?
Because the issue usually isnât that your voice has no potential. Itâs the story youâre singing from.
If youâre ready to change that story and reconnect with your real sound, check out the links in comments. đ
Hot take: your vocal coach doesnât need to be the best singer in the room.
Their job isnât to flex high notes while you leave every lesson feeling tense, blocked, or like youâll never âcatch up.â
A real coach helps you sound like yourself on recordings. They explain whatâs happening in your body, walk you out of tension, and into that free, soulful sound youâve been chasing.
Stop shopping for singers. Start choosing teachers who make your voice feel safe, powerful, and real.
If you start every vocal practice with scales⌠but still feel tense or ânot good enough,â this is for you.đ¤
Most singers think: more scales = more control = more perfection.
But if your mind is full of doubt, your body will stay tense, and your voice will keep sounding small, no matter how many exercises you do.
Real singing doesnât start on a piano.
It starts with the thoughts you believe, the body youâre living in, and the emotional truth youâre willing to feel.
Before your next practice, try this 30-second reset:
đ Soften your shoulders
đŽUnclench your jaw
đŽâđ¨ Breathe into your belly
đš Let that next note come from that softer place
If singing is part of who you are and youâre ready for your real voice to finally feel safe to show up, thereâs a space for you inside my coaching world.

A tight voice is not always a technique problem.
Sometimes your voice tightens because your nervous system is under pressure. Youâre comparing yourself, judging every note, trying to sound impressive, or bracing for criticism before you even sing.
And when that happens, the voice naturally starts to hold back.
Technique matters, of course. But the technique works better when your body feels safe enough to use it.
So before you jump into âfixingâ your voice, pause and ask:
Am I trying to impress, or am I trying to express?
That one question can change the way you sing.
