Southlands Nursery Vancouver A charming and tasteful nursery located on the Vancouver Westside. We hope you will visit soon!

Established in 1991, and located in a charming 'equestrian pocket' on Vancouver's upscale westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city. Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their riders go by our gates. With delicious free coffee always on hand, many people tell us that they come down to the nursery just to experience the beautiful atmosphere.

Semi-double rose-red flowers; blooms in summer to early fall; use as cut flowers, in borders, rock gardens, and in containers; rich, moist, well-drained soil. Skimmia japonica ‘Fragrant Cloud’
Fragrant Cloud Skimmia (Male)

Slow growing, dense, mounding evergreen with fragrant white flowers over leathery, dark green leaves in spring. Use this with other Skimmia varieties to pollinate female plants for berry production. Mix into borders, hedges or containers. Plant in partial to full shade for best results. Fragrant, white flowers. 3-4 feet tall and wide (1 to 1.25 meters tall and wide). Zone 5. Water regularly after planting for a strong, healthy root system. Fertilize in early spring just before new growth begins with an all-purpose fertilizer.

October at Southlands.

In October, the Vancouver garden slows down as warm summer colors mix with cool fall rain. Japanese maples stand out with bright red, yellow, and orange leaves against dark green fir trees, while late flowers like dahlias, anemones, and lingering roses keep blooming next to tall, swaying grasses. Fresh autumn rain brightens up leaves, evergreen shrubs, and colorful berries. Soil covered in fallen leaves is moist and easy to work with, making it a great time to clean up lawns, plant spring bulbs, and put garlic in the ground before winter arrives.
