BCAF’s Shochugeiko aka Summer Intensive seminar is hosted by Shawnigan Lake Aikikai. With the theme of Diversity, the senseis (guest instructors) are the Up-&-comers ranging from almost shodan (1D) to rokkkudan (6D). Students attending represent almost every rank ( no 2K). It is a fresh joyful practice in a classy venue, Shawnigan Lake School, English style private school: air conditioned dojo, sumptuous dining hall! Having a great time.

Congratulations!👏 to Ed Wass who received his SanDan recognition from Hombu.
Ed has been with Victoria Aikikai for decades and was a devout and personal student of Kawahara-Sensei in aikido but also in ChiGong. Humble and steady but ‘tough as nails’, Ed is a true role model of the Aikido gentle warrior. The pictures show the creakiness of aging does not seem to diminish his joy.

Class by Scott Macphail-Shihan covered a range of techniques, attacks and entries, including Morote-tori Ikkyo, Ryote-tori kotegaeshi [variation] — most my mages, & ryote-tori Shihonage.

At the dojo today our Sensei, Scott Macphail-Shihan invited those students to share essential techniques, or simply treasured memories of Chio-Sensei: Scott Macphail-S, Bob Moline-S, Hilary Dawson-S, John Peterson-S, Tony Leong-S, Penny Ross, Barb Wolfe, Adrian Taylor-S, Ed Wass, Michael Richardson.
It was delightful to have a full dojo with 20 people practicing, and 6 of them, 1/4 of the dojo, women!
