🔥 🔊 SPOTLIGHT PLAYER OF THE WEEK 🔊🔥 Meet Dani, our league’s Vice President!

“Hey! I’m Dani and my pronouns are she/her.

I grew up playing soccer and softball before shifting my focus to swimming, where I competed at a high level through high school and university. Spending so many years in an individual sport shaped how I train and compete, but it also made me realize how much I missed being part of a team and how meaningful shared experiences can be.

After moving to Victoria a year and a half ago, I was looking for something that would help me feel more connected in a new city while still staying active. I wanted a sport that felt social and low-pressure, and flag football turned out to be exactly that!

I’ve been playing for about a year now, and what I love most is how open and accessible the sport is. It’s easy to join and learn, there’s so much room to grow at your own pace, and I really enjoy the mix of strategy and adaptability it requires. Coming from an individual sport, I especially value the team aspect, where we can learn together, support each other, and share responsibility on the field in a way that keeps the game competitive without being intimidating.

What keeps me coming back every season is that balance of competition and community. The sport challenges me physically, but it’s the people and the sense of belonging that make it something I genuinely look forward to each week. It’s a safe space to have fun, feel connected, and enjoy some friendly competition, and it’s become such a consistent and positive part of my life.”

It’s almost football time! 🏈🤩

A few pointers for the training sessions:
🔹 No cleats? Running shoes are ok too
🔹 If you have pockets, they must zip up
🔹 If you have flags and/or gloves, bring them
🔹 There is no bathroom at the field, but there is a Tim Hortons a very quick drive away, plan ahead
🔹 Arrive 10-15 minutes early to check in and set up your name tag, warm up starts at 11:30 sharp

*if you have not signed up but are planning on attending the sessions, please sign up (you can wait on payment) or send us a quick DM!

🔥🔊 SPOTLIGHT PLAYER OF THE WEEK! 🔊🔥 Meet Regina!

“My name is Regina Cervantes and flag football has been part of my life long before I ever put on a jersey. My mom is a true pioneer who helped open the sport for women in Mexico, winning championships with my aunt. My mom as QB, my aunt as WR. My dad played as a WR for UNAM and later represented Mexico with the National Team. My uncles built their own legacy at UNAM. Even my grandmas played. My family didn’t just love flag… we are flag.

My sister carried that legacy first. She played at Tec de Monterrey for almost nine years as a QB, and watching her be the absolute best lit something powerful in me. She opened the door, and I followed. We played together at Tec for two unforgettable years.

Later, we chose UNAM as our new team, the same institution our dad and uncles once wore with pride. Sharing the field with her has been one of the magical moments of my life.
Flag gave me a family in Mexico, teammates who became sisters, friendships that still feel like home.

Then I moved to Canada… and everything felt far away.
Until I found the South Island Flag Football League.

SIFFL didn’t just give me a team, they gave me a home. They welcomed me with open arms, no hesitation, no judgment, no need for translation. Flag football has no language barriers. Passion speaks for you. The field connected us instantly.
SIFFL made me feel seen, safe, understood. They turned a new country into a place where I belong. And now, just like my parents did back home, I’m building a family of my own through this sport in Canada.

Flag football is my home.
SIFFL is my home. ❤️🔥🇨🇦”f
