15K virtual Klondike Road Relay done! Coming to you from St Paul, Minnesota and running with Green Team!! The scenery wasn’t as beautiful as the sunrise on leg 6 last year overlooking Bove Island but I ran 2 lakes, lots of hills and wooded areas all in urban St Paul.
Thanks to all the volunteers for a fantastic relay this year. My first but hopefully not my last!
Thanks to all the many volunteers who gave their time to make this a successful event!

Hey everyone, I am wondering if anyone know the rules in the case of a last minute unfortunate situation where a runner can not longer run. Can we just skip the leg, take a penalty and start again at the next leg over??
My kids' Youth Road Relay team needs one more runner. (At the moment, it's five Gr. 8 girls and two Gr. 6 boys, but we're open to any youth). If anyone has kids who'd be into running, please let me know. Thanks!
Looking to take part in the run. If anyone has openings or legs they need filled, shoot me a message.
Hey there
I am looking to run a leg or two or three of the race... anyone have a spot for me? Would preferably like to run the course closer to Whitehorse if possible...
Noncompetitive team looking for a runner for either leg 4 or 6!
Looking for a team. Not sure if this is the page to post about that but anyhow, hit me up! I can provide references for how epic of a car rider I am :)
Slow (but steady) female runner looking to join a team for one of the latter stages of the race. I'll get 'er done for you - but it might not be fast!
Great support team.
Can you track a team electronically?

Whitehorse Daily Star: Virtual Klondike Road Relay a success

Throw back to our annual Thursday drive to Skagway on the eve of the KRR. Marg and I have been working together for 11 years now and have been race partners in crime for the past 6 events. On the eve of what was supposed to be the 38th annual KRR, our tradition of indulging in Pork Belly, Pad Thai and Sake at Star Fire in Skagway was replaced with burgers and coffee here in Whitehorse while we reminisced about the good ole days. We would like to send a heart felt thank you for supporting us during these uncertain times and taking the time to share your thoughts and well wishes with us. We are so excited with the turn out for the Virtual KRR and appreciate you all for taking part and helping us raise funds to keep the KRR alive for future years! Huge shout out to our VKRR sponsors @northbynwtel and @sportsexpertsyukon for helping us pull this event off and to our friends at @northernstrengthacademy for all the pre race workouts and tips! To those who have already completed your distance, congratulations! To those who will be completing in the next two days, you got this!!! Lastly, to all of our volunteers and checkpoint captains who have given so much time to this event year after year, we are thinking of you and can’t wait to reunite when it’s safe to do so!!! We will be coming at you from the finish line here in Whitehorse on Saturday, September 12th to send off another year. All the best to you all!! -Marg & Sandra #virtualkrr2020 @ Klondike Road Relay

2020 — Virtual Klondike Road Relay —

Goooood morning! Today is the day! Registration for the Virtual Klondike Road Relay is NOW live! Here is a bit about the event and how to get started.

The Virtual Klondike Road Relay has been created to keep our racing community engaged during these uncertain times of COVID-19. Although this platform is not set up to mimic the actual event, it's a way to stay connected with your teammates and the road relay community.

Two ways to participate

1. Create a team and run/walk together virtually wherever you are anytime during the month long event! Select the team category, create a team name and add up to 10 people.

TIP: A team name must be created before you can add any participants. Assign this task to one person on your team then simply register as a participant and select your team name from the drop down menu.

or

2. Run or walk on your own. Choose your desired distance and complete anytime during the month long event.

**Please note, this is a fun event in place of our official KRR. Results from this event will not count toward your KRR results**

Registration fee is $30 CAD per person which includes;

-Virtual KRR custom t-shirt which will be available after the event (if you register after August 15th, your shirt will be available at the end of September)
-Six week training plan by Northern Strength Academy which can be used to prepare for this event or any other events in the future
-Promo code to use online or in person at Coast Mount Sports Yukon
-Finishing certificate which can be printed as a keepsake
-Option to donate directly to Sport Yukon

Share your experience with us by following @klondikeroadrelay on Facebook & Instagram using #virtualkrr2020

There will be prizes for best photos!!!

06/29/2020

Happy Monday! The Virtual Klondike Road Relay registration opens on Friday morning! Just to be clear, as we’ve had a few questions on this. This is NOT an official Klondike Relay event therefore, your results will not count towards the official results. We’ve created this event as a way to keep our racing community connected while we cannot host the official event. It’s just for fun! Runners will be able to choose from 10km to 30km distance, walkers can choose from a 5km to a 20km distance and youth can choose from 5km to a 15km distance. These distances can be done wherever you are in the world. These results will be uploaded to the virtual event page and you will be able to print off a finishing certificate. You can create a team of up to 10 people or you can choose to participate on your own. All participants receive a shirt after the event is completed (September 12). #virtualkrr2020

Due to the ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic, our 2020 event registration will be delayed until further notice.

This is a fluid situation, and we are communicating with health officials from the Yukon, British Columbia and Alaska governments in order to ensure the race can be run with the health of the participants, volunteers and public in mind.

The Klondike Road Relay Board will update you over the next weeks as things evolve. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Runners End of Season Social!!
Hello all the runners of Whitehorse. We are going to be having an end of season social at our Canada Games Centre clinic location on the evening of Dec 3rd starting at 7 pm. The three guest speakers will be Brianne Bremner, David Eikelboom and Dominique Bradford. Each guest speaker will be discussing their own experiences with running, how it impacts their life and how they work it into their lives.

There is no cost to attend but cash donations to The Reckless Raven will be accepted. This is a great way to meet with other local runners and discuss the highs and lows/trials and tribulations of a great activity.

Refreshments will be provided.

A legend was lost this past weekend. We are heartbroken from the news of our dearest Buckwheats passing. He will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. Keep howling at that big ole moon, Buckwheat!

It’s been a tough couple of days since we lost our beloved Buckwheat Donahue. 💔 BW, we will never forget your Bigger than Life ability to connect people through sport and recreation and tourism and crazy, but perfect, stories. Our Klondike Road Relay, and the Buckwheat Ski Classic, will never be the same, but will carry on your legacy.
On a personal note, thank you for your love and care and laughter. You were our family, and this world won’t be the same without you.

Our Story

The race will commence on Friday evening, September 10th, 2021 in Skagway, Alaska. Runners will follow the trail of the Gold Rush Stampeders over the famous White Pass, through B.C. and finishing on Saturday, September 11th in Whitehorse along the banks of the Yukon River.

General information

The 2021 relay will have 8 official categories; Open, Mixed, Women, Masters Open, Masters Mixed, Masters Women, Golden Masters Mixed and Corporate. There will also be 5 special categories; 8-person Walking, 4-person Walking, Ultra and Youth. Special categories only involve legs 7-10 (Carcross to Whitehorse). The relay is run on paved highway throughout the night and into the next day over challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery. The weather often varies from beautiful starlit nights with displays of northern lights, to cloudy, foggy, rainy, and sometimes snowy conditions. More often than not, the race ends on a sunny, crisp fall day in the capital. The 175 km relay is broken into 10 legs varying in distance from 9.0 to 25.6 km. It starts at sea level, climbs to an elevation of 1004 meters in the first 2 legs and descends to approximately 610 meters towards the finish line. Teams of 6 to 10 participants run in various categories with each team being permitted one support vehicle. This event has attracted a large number of participants each year with a record number of 205 teams involved in 2019 We welcome both the competitive and recreational runner and stress the importance of treating all participants, race officials and volunteers with respectful and courteous behaviour. We are happy to announce that we have over 200 volunteers involved in the production of the relay, making it one of the most successful volunteer efforts in our territory. We are extremely proud of and thankful for the volunteers who take time out of their schedules each year to make this relay a true success.
