**Raleigh reigns supreme**
Taree- Wingham CTC welcomed competitors to the June monthly trap competition on a gorgeous winter morning. The program for the day was a 25 target Single Barrel cash divide followed by the 80 Mixed Targets Club Championship which was broken into three rounds of 20t Double Barrel, 20t Single Barrel, 20t Point Score and 10pr Double Rise.
At the time of nominating there were two club members who were re-graded. Allan Mudford from B to A grade and Nate Zammit from C to B grade. Congratulation to you both.
The first event kicked off with a tricky white cloud background that made seeing targets a little difficult. Young promising junior Jarvis Greenaway impressed greatly under the watchful eye of David Frost with 20/25 in only his 3rd ever competition, narrowly missing C grade honours, beaten by Des McLure who shot 21/25. Des has been practicing hard at the club and the results are paying off. Dean Rumbel was the pick of the shooters top scoring with 24/25. Round results were:
C Grade: Des McLure 21/25, Jarvis Greenaway 20/25
B Grade: David Raleigh & Robert Markey 21/25
A Grade: Dean Rumbel 24/25, Fred Azzopardi 23/25
AA Grade: Aaron Green 22/25, Jim Wilberforce 22/25
The second event was the 80t Mixed Target Championships which consisted of 4 rounds, 20t Double Barrel, 20t Single Barrel, 20t Point Score and 10pr Double Rise, all shot as individual rounds. As expected the double barrel round saw high scores posted with a single target separating the top 10 competitors. After the single barrel round the field was spread a little wider although nothing could separate David Raleigh, Dean Rumbel & Allan Mudford all tied on 4 targets down.
But as it so often happens, the Point Score round is where it counts as each target hit on the first barrel counting for 3 points, second barrel 2 points and missing altogether 0 points. Mark Brody (C grade) put the field on notice hitting all but 1 target with his first barrel scoring 59/60 along side promising junior Nate Zammit who similarly impressed with 57/60, instantly jumping both competitors up the leaderboard. A grade Al (as he’s now known) showed why he was recently regraded missing just the one target to score 57/60 and keep him in contention. Raleigh rose the challenge however and posted the equal top Point Score total with 59/60 to lead the event thus far by 1 point.
The final round was Double Rise with 2 targets flying out of the trap houses simultaneously and competitors having to hit both targets. A number of new shooters had never shot Double Rise previously but you would never tell from their scores. Keen as mustard new shooter Justin Merchant had never seen Double Rise let alone shot it ended up with 16/20, the second highest score of this round. All eyes were on the battle for overall between “A grade Al”, Dave Raleigh and Dean Rumbel. Al & Dean shot exceptionally well top scoring the round with 17/20 and putting the pressure on Raleigh who had to hit 16 or better to win outright. Raleigh was 14/18 with one pair to shoot, if he hit them both he would win outright, one hit would result in a tied shoot-off and missing them both would mean settling for second place. Dave called for his pair and obliterated both to secure his first overall club championship title. Congrats Dave, well deserved under great pressure.

Topping off a great day, Dave Raleigh was chosen as the Lucky Lotto winner by unfortunately missed his 5th target from 24m which sees the Lotto jackpot next month.
High gun for the month was a very proud Dean Rumbel who gloated he now has family bragging rights with 3 high guns titles over daughter Jasmine.
A huge shout out to all the members who assisted, especially Murray Emerton & Sam Jackman who didn’t compete but kept traps filled and events rolling as well as Jess Emerton and Neve Baker in the kitchen who kept everyone’s tummies full.
The next competition will be held on 26th July from 10am and spectators are more than welcome to attend, have a cuppa or lunch and see the sport in action.
