Do you feel stiff or stuck when trying to work on your separation in your skiing?
If you don’t have the hip mobility for the separation you want, you probably need to work on your mobility off-snow.
2 of our favourite exercises are:
1. Banded internal rotation
- Make sure the band is pulling your lower leg INwards
- Internally rotate your thigh without any other movements, this is how you move your leg out as shown
- Keep your pelvis grounded so the movement is isolated at the hip joint. (So many people think they are “separating from the hip” when actually their pelvis is swinging around - look at where your belly button is pointing in your skiing, not your shoulders. But that’s a post for another day)
2. Hip 90/90s
- set up as shown
- keep your pelvis planted as you fold forward at the waist and then lean out to the side
- reverse your leg position and then go again
