Meet Guo Guangwei, an outstanding Chinese language teacher who has dedicated years to spreading Chinese culture across the globe. He has served as a volunteer in Nepal, taught Chinese language in Thailand, worked as a state-sponsored teacher at the Confucius Institute of the University of Zambia, and served as the Chinese director at the Confucius Institute of Nouakchott University in Mauritania. His sincere dedication has earned him the prestigious title of "Most Beautiful Chinese Language Teacher of Global Confucius Institutes."

When Guo first arrived in Zambia, Chinese language education faced huge challenges with low enrollment and limited public awareness regarding the language. To improve the situation, he traveled to rural schools to promote Chinese language learning and even launched the popular program "Learn Chinese with Me" on Zambia's national TV. He soon became a star teacher, often greeted by local people in Chinese on the streets of Lusaka.

His efforts achieved even more remarkable results in Mauritania. When he took office, the Confucius Institute had fewer than 200 students. The number of learners had exceeded 2,000, with an annual enrollment of nearly 1,000 students when he left the institute.

"There are no shortcuts in education, only sincerity," he said, adding, "As long as there is a podium, I will keep teaching." With persistent faith and heartfelt dedication, he has rooted Chinese language education in foreign lands and built bridges for cross-cultural communication.

In 2007, Zhang Xiaozhen embarked on her first journey to Cameroon. Starting with merely a table and a chair, she founded the Confucius Institute at the University of Yaoundé II, laying a solid foundation for Chinese language education in Cameroon.

In 2013, she set off for Africa for the second time. She started all over again in a makeshift office of less than ten square meters at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. In 2022, she returned to Tanzania for a third time, simply because the Confucius Institute is close to her heart — a cause worthy of lifelong devotion.

Over more than a decade, she has built a complete Chinese education system covering primary and secondary schools, universities, and vocational education from scratch. She has cultivated tens of thousands of Chinese learners, empowering countless African youth to broaden their career paths and embrace brighter futures.

Her dedication has won wide recognition. She was awarded the Cameroonian Knight Medal in 2011 and honored as one of the annual figures of "Light of China" in 2013. To her students across Africa, she is affectionately known as the warm and loving "Chinese Mom".
