FIRENZE – BAGNO DI ROMAGNA 166KM
This stage pays tribute to Gino Bartali with the starting point of the Cycling Museum Gino Bartali in Ponte a Email as the depart, its definitely a stage that the great man would have attacked.
We left the highlife and chic of Firenze and headed East towards the finish point of Bagno di Romagna. Immediately Mick encountered the force of the Apennines, the climbing was gradual with only the occasional small descent.
Mick would have to conquer 4 consecutive categorised climbs today, the Passo della Consuma, Passo della Calla, Passo del Carno and Monte Fumaiolo.
Once again the sun was happily shining, the scenery was glorious, the landscape was a mass of greenery with the occasional house distracting the view.
Mick coped amazingly with the climbs, the roads were surprisingly good and we were enroute to the next destination Forli early.
