We’re continuing the story right where we left off! 🙂

We’ve reached the quenching stage – the moment when a piece of steel becomes a knife, ready to take on the tasks it was made for.

But quenching is not just physics and chemistry. It is the moment when the craftsman gives a cold, gray piece of steel character and determines its fate. From that moment on, it is no longer just a piece of metal, but a knife that will make both its future owner and its maker proud.

In the video, you can see the heat treatment of an older generation of W2 steel. Thanks to its low manganese content and shallow hardenability, this steel is one of the best choices for creating a pronounced and lively hamon. Today, W2 like this is a real rarity and a true pleasure to work with.

Let’s see whether I’ll have enough knowledge and luck to bring out the hamon I’m hoping for. 🙂

Nastavljamo priču tamo gde smo stali! 🙂

Stigli smo do kaljenja – trenutka kada komad čelika postaje nož, spreman da odgovori zadacima za koje je namenjen.

Ali kaljenje nije samo fizika i hemija. To je trenutak kada majstor hladnom i sivom komadu čelika daje karakter i određuje njegovu sudbinu. Od tog trenutka on više nije samo komad metala, već nož koji će biti na ponos svom budućem vlasniku i svom tvorcu.

Na snimku je termička obrada W2 čelika starije generacije. Zahvaljujući niskom sadržaju mangana i plitkoj prokaljivosti, ovaj čelik je jedan od najboljih izbora za stvaranje izraženog i živog hamona. Danas je ovakav W2 pravi raritet i pravo zadovoljstvo raditi sa njim.

Da vidimo da li ću imati dovoljno znanja i sreće da izvučem hamon kakav priželjkujem. 🙂
