Welcome to First Aid Friday, a series to keep you current between courses.

I am Bill Doran.

Prevention plays a vital role in first aid.

This week, we focus on avoiding the need for first aid by preventing holiday stress.

Here are some helpful tips for the next dive holiday:

* Set realistic expectations.
* Prioritize what truly matters.
* Don't hesitate to say "no" to overcommitments.
* Plan ahead.
* Delegate tasks.
* Manage your finances and time wisely.
* Stay connected.
* Most importantly, make time for self-care, such as exercise, sleep, and quiet breaks.

Be aware of signs of holiday stress in yourself and others to help prevent accidents.

First Aid Friday - Are you prepared?

When planning a dive, always consider your health.

As a dive professional, I regularly complete medical check-ups. When was your last medical examination? When did you last review any medications you are taking?

As responsible divers, we plan our dive and dive our plan. This includes planning based on our healthcare or health status.

There is no fixed minimum number of dives per year. However, many organizations recommend at least 12 dives annually to maintain active status, with at least one dive near the maximum depth of your certification every six months.

For recreational diving, if you are completing less than 12 dives,
it is advisable to take a refresher course or, at a minimum, go on guided dives. This is especially important if you are a new diver.
