Mentalk - Mens Sana

Now that the weather is calming down just a little, thoughts turn to whether or not we should try again to hold in person meetings of Mentalk. Our main challenge is to find a man who is willing and able to be the "voice" of Mentalk in Paphos and to be a regular facilitator of the meetings. It's an early evening meeting, after normal working hours, and although we have previously met on Mondays, that's flexible.

All admin and paperwork will be done by our office volunteer. If you or someone you know could help other men to share their experiences, (whilst having a brew and a laugh), please get in touch.

Feedback helps us learn. If you have ideas to help the group reach more men, we would love to hear from you.

Sadly, we have to announce the indefinite suspension of MENTALK meetings due to lack of uptake.

We thought a men's talking group would be a much needed and useful resource in Paphos, but over the past 6 months we have had very low numbers attending and several meetings where there have been no participants at all.

Our administrator is retiring and is stepping away from all their outside commitments at the end of March. This will, sadly, include travelling to open and close the venue for the Mens Group, although the website and emails will still be monitored, at least for a while.

It means that, if Mentalk is to resume, we need men who want to attend regularly and get the full benefit, and also to find a man who is willing to be the regular "front man" and facilitator for the weekly meetings, or possibly move to a fortnightly model if that is the only way. At the moment those goals seem a long way off.

If you feel you have what it takes to run a men's talking group and would like to be involved, please get in touch! MENTALK steering group members will of course offer support to any reasonable proposal to revive the group.

If you are feeling as though you can't cope or there is nothing to keep you here, please speak to someone. There's a solution to every problem, and no situation is worth ending your precious life. A surprising number of people would never be the same without you. Yes, it's hard to ask for help. But if you can't talk to a friend or relative about how you're feeling, then Samaritans, your GP, a counsellor, Mentalk admin, are all willing to help if you let them.

Following on from previous questions about whether there's a need for a men's group in Paphos. Sadly, not one man has come along to a meeting in January. The room has been opened up every week, ready to welcome whoever needed to come along. Of course it's January, dark and cold in the evening, and we get that coming out is not such an attractive prospect. But the group is paying rent for the room, which is pointless if its not being used. So, we're going to run one more group this coming Monday, and if it's still a zero then we will need to suspend the group. Please, if you're a man and believe this is something that men need in Paphos, let us know. Thanks.
