KOM Berlin Everesting Challenge

Ultra Riders! Be sure to come prepared with everything you need to complete your challenge. Many riders will use small tents to house their supplies, we totally recommend doing this, especially if the weather is poor, but we will also set up a shared area you can use. Anyways, with a tent you have a place to sleep if you need. :)

We will do our best to keep some warm drinks and other food available, but remember—this is a mainly self-supported event!

BREAKING NEWS: after months of careful deliberation, and speaking with many riders, we have decided to make an important change to the course direction you will be riding this weekend. Look closely at this image and you will notice that the arrows are pointing counterclockwise. This is not a mistake. This new course direction means that we will now be able to watch everyone climb, instead of descend, and you will reach the top of the mountain last. We have also tested the course with a professional rider and it seems to even be a little bit faster, so adjust your bikes accordingly as it is steeper, but the new, longer descent less technical. **EILMELDUNG**: Nach monatelangen Überlegungen und Gesprächen mit vielen Fahrern haben wir uns entschieden, eine wichtige Änderung an der Kursrichtung vorzunehmen, den ihr dieses Wochenende fahren werdet. Schaut euch dieses Bild genau an und ihr werdet feststellen, dass die Pfeile gegen den Uhrzeigersinn zeigen. Dies ist kein Fehler. Mit dieser neuen Kursrichtung können wir nun alle beim Klettern im Blick haben anstatt beim Abfahren beobachten und ihr werdet erst am Ende den Gipfel des Berges erreichen. Wir haben den Kurs auch mit einem Profifahrer getestet und es scheint sogar etwas schneller zu sein. Passt also eure Fahrräder entsprechend an, da es steiler ist, aber die neue, längere Abfahrt weniger technisch anspruchsvoll wird. Wir danken euch für eure Unterstützung auf diesem neuen Abenteuer!

Friday night ca. 40 riders will start . We will be there too with beer, food and music. Camping is allowed. See you there!

The first year of any event is often referred to as its “trial by Fire“. For everyone present that day, it was trial by wind and rain. Ultimately, mother nature won that day, but we came back twice again with mixed results. Some say rain even follows us around and ruins other peoples events, something we do not totally disagree with. But all in all, it’s good for a laugh too. If by chance, we are met with bad weather again, at least we’ll have the good folks from on hand to help out unfortunate riders. That being said, and especially for riders, as with any cycling event, it is best to come prepared with everything you need to keep your bike moving. 📷

Back in 2020, when we started this event, we received an email from a young man requesting a discount on the starter fee. He was only 17 and told us honestly that he simply couldn’t afford it. Instead of granting him the discount, we decided to let him ride for free. And so began the tradition of allowing all under 25 riders free access to the event. This is our way of supporting young cyclists and removing barriers for participation. In 2020, as a reward you could say, .ist.leo turned up on a standard road bike with 25mm tires on which he rode the muddiest kom event that will ever take place, the course surface being much improved now, and earned a place in the history of the event. After a two-year hiatus, probably recovering from the “type 2 fun” of that day, we noticed last week that Leo is registered again, and currently no doubt training hard for this year’s event. Will he again ride 25mm? Come to KOM on September 16th and find out! 📷

Aside from the weekend rides, we’ve been a bit quiet on here —but soon that’s about to change. Mountain climbing season is heating up again, so it’s time to get registered, invite your friends, and most importantly, bring the entire Berlin Cycling community to this event. if not as riders, as fans! Since three years, we have had the very best of Berlin at the start line, the only thing missing from this event are lots of folks to cheer them on. Believe us, there are riders aplenty. Not to mention great music, funny people, and the best views Berlin has to offer. Mark your calendars — Sep 16!
