Former Puppy Mill Madam, Edie, and Her Friends Need Help

I forgot to post these! These were taken in August 2015 when we first moved to Berlin! A piece of the Berlin Wall, and Checkpoint Charlie.
Edie was hiding in the bag as it was crowded and busy.

It is now 2016 and we've been living in Berlin (Germany) for about 8 months!

Edie still has many health issues but she is so much better off! Actually, all three of us are!

Today is Edie's adoptivaersary! Although she was only to be a foster, I realized that she is family.

Edie was a former puppy mill dog who was rescued by one of the ai xin mamas we have helped in the past.

One year ago today, I took Edie out of the shelter and to the vet where she got her shots and checkups and stayed there for one week since she had Scabies. The docs had me hold her in a towel so that I wouldn't get the Scabies.

One year later, she still has a lot of health problems, but she refuses to go in cages, has two best dog friends (and many more in the apartment complex), can walk on a leash, runs, jumps and wags her little nub of a tail when I come home and so much more!

I may be a foster failure with her but I'm OK. She belongs in my family 100%!

To all the donations that were made to her last year, this year I am trying to pay it forward. I am fostering another dog from the shelter, Annie. If you want to help out, all I ask is that you share Annie's page and photos and help her get a loving home! :D

Also...Educate yourselves on the horrors of puppy, kitten and other animal "mills" and BOYCOTT them!

It has almost been a year since I took Edie in! It's amazing how much different she is, not just in her appearance but in her personality!

Today was her bimonthly haircut! :D

Edie was from a breeder who didn't take care of her. She was taken in by an Ai Xin Mama (animal shelter caregiver) that Taichung PAWS has helped with in the past.

She came with three other small dogs who were taken in quickly. Only she was left and no one seemed to want her. I decided that I would foster her until she found a home. That was in May, 2013.

She was not an easy case. She's had countless health issues and I had to train her as if she was a puppy. I've had to teach her things such as: walking on a leash, going to the bathroom outside (Still not perfected as my work hours prevent this but at least when I'm home, she doesn't go in the house and she ALWAYS goes when I take her outside...and she goes a LOT!), walking up and down small flights of stairs, keeping a good healthy pace for walking without a lot of stopping, sitting (she is now in the process of perfecting that one), jumping up and putting her two front paws on my lap when I kneel down to put her collar on on command (that's her favorite because she knows it's time to go on a walk!)

I admit it. I'm a foster failure. Edie and Xiao Mai have become the best of friends and I have another lovely member in my family.

It is already March of 2014 and Edie has become an integral part of my family.

When I got her in May of 2013 (last May), she had never walked on a leash, probably never left her cage (and would hide in her cage at my place for the first couple of weeks), was a hot mess of Scabies and dirt and would duck her head every time someone tried to pet her because she thought they were going to hit her.

Five months ago in my new apartment in Yuanlin, she would still stop frequently, she would stop whenever there was a sewer grate and I would have to pick her up and carry her over it and she wouldn't walk on [small sets of] stairs.

Now, she stops less (but still stops). She walks over the grates carefully but with ease, she walks easily on a leash and gets super excited when it's walking time! She doesn't get as scared around my neighbors but there are times where she will stop dead in her tracks when one of them are walking towards her, or if there is a group of them talking loudly, but it's not as often. And, the three of us walk together quickly (but carefully) and in harmony down small sets of stairs!!

Although she is healthier than she was, she is constantly plagued with health issues. She has what the vet calls "Abnormal Normal Heart Arrhythmia" which is arrhythmia but not super serious.

At the moment, she has a fungal problem in her ears and on her back and I've been giving her medicine every day for a couple weeks. Her vet bills aren't cheap (At least NT$700 a week), but I'm finally settled in my new job and have no problem with finances for her (and Mai of course).

Eventually, I want to move back to Europe to be closer to my parents and so Edie and Mai can experience going on walks on actual sidewalks and parks that actually allow dogs (but fine those people who don't pick up the p**p), so now I've been discussing with the vets to make sure she will be healthy enough to go with us. So far, they haven't told me no, but that is something I need to check regularly.

A cage was also donated to Edie last year. She hasn't used it since July of 2013 and it's just sitting in storage (except for two parts of the "fence" which I use to block things off from the girls), so if anyone wants to borrow the cage, for a small rescue dog, please tell me! But you'll need to come get it yourself.

To those who donated to her cause last year, she can't thank you enough! You all saved her life and I hope to be paying that amount that was donated forward to another dog/dogs/animals are who are in as much in need as Edie was. I might be splitting up the money but will give you all more details when I get a clear idea of who I will be donating to, how much and when. Hopefully next month!
