MBA sailing among top business schools // end of 2024 season // 2025 events announced

WHU Sailing with two teams in MBA sailing league races in Cascais, Portugal

WHU Sailing – managed by WHU alumni – has been active in organizing and taking part in the Global MBA Sailing League where the best international MBA schools compete for winning the prestigious annual trophy.
In a complex series of fleet races, 12 teams in division A (boat type J70) competed against each other on the Atlantic at Cascais, Portugal for two days. The regatta was organized by IE Business School from Madrid and closed the MBA sail racing season for 2024.
Nine WHU // Kellogg WHU alumni on two boats, skippered by Michael Hoffmann and Nils T. Kohle enjoyed, an exciting time on the water, experiencing everything from strong to little winds in bright autumn sunshine. The format of this regatta was short races with team changes on the water, including fleet and match racing.
In sailing division A (J70’s) SDA Bocconi’s sailing team won their third MBA regatta out of the four in 2024 and thus won the overall league this year, closely followed by LBS. WHU came 8 and 10. In division “B”, the IE team scored four super-consistent second places to secure first overall in the yacht division (40-foot boats).
As always, networking with like-minded peers from all the universities was part of the three days event in the Yacht Club of Cascais, one of the most well-known spots for sailors from around the world. About 150 participants from 14 universities took part in the racing, and of course in the common evening receptions as well as at the black-tie price giving ceremony and the after-party in a club in Downtown Lisbon.
Recently the first couple of 2025 regattas and locations have just been announced and we want to further grow our WHU sailing team to be able to take part in more races.
These upcoming events will be organized by our experienced teams and we are happy to have new sailors on board – with or without experience:

• LBS MBA Regatta, Global MBA Trophy 2025, Athens/Greece, April 10th – 13th, Global MBA Trophy – a sailing race amongst alumni of the world's top Business Schools
• POLIMI GsoM, Sardegna/Italy, 8.5.-11.5., Mba | Polimi Gsom Regatta
• RSM MBA Regatta 2025, Valetta/Malta, 10.7.-13.7., RSM MBA Regatta 2025 – RSM Sailing Club
• IE MBA Regatta 2025, Cascais/Portugal, end of Sept – TBD
Let us know if you want to take part and reserve a spot. We will be happy to explain you all the details and integrate you into our team.

Dear all,

the WHU/Kellogg sailing team and the Alumni Business Cup Association are very sad to inform you that the 2020 ABCup Regatta in Hamburg / Germany (May 21-24, 2020) is now officially cancelled.

This frustrating decision is aligned with the most recent instructions issued by the Hamburg government and the health authorities, who have called off all group and touristic events in Hamburg for the next 6 weeks – with possible extensions into May.

Nevertheless, all registered ABCup participants will be fully refunded in the coming days.

While we’re very disappointed, we fully understand and support the government’s decision to protect as many people’s health as possible. The ABCup Regatta has been around for more than a quarter of a century and will not surrender to Corona but will be back next year for sure! We’ll inform you as soon as we know more about next year’s dates when we plan to do the race in Hamburg again.

We take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their much appreciated support:

We would like to thank all of you for having registered! We hope to see you all on the water next year!

Thanks a lot for your understanding and don’t hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
