A Skateboarders Guide to Gender Identity with Xem Skaters | Skateism
When it comes to understanding gender identity, skateboarding still has a long way to go. The world does too, of course, but for a supposedly progressive subculture, skateboarding lacks a lot of understanding when it comes to gender. But we don’t think it’s for lack of caring among cis skaters, ...

Hi!
I know I have been very silent in the past months. I have put aside XEM SKATERS in order to focus on my personal art and mostly, well, my life.
Starting this zine back in July 2016 has been quite an adventure. The process taught me a lot and gave me greater hope for the skate scene and the overall DIY scene. I started the zine with the aim to open the conversation about q***r identities and to give visibility to q***r skaters. Looking back when I started there was not a lot of information out there. The goal of the zine was mainly for it to not be needed anymore. And I can say that the goal has been reached after issue 3. I am so grateful to see the skate scene opening up thanks to the constant efforts of the q***r, trans and female* community.
Following the release of issue #3, I have been invited to take part of Pushing Boarders in London during a panel dedicated to gender identity in skateboarding. I didn't realize it then but what I said out there was the conclusion of my presence as a spokesperson for the q***r community in the skate scene. If you want to read my speech, it has been published on Free Skate Mag. After this, I left the window open to come back and work on more zine issues, but I have recently decided that I need to close the window and keep directing my q***r activism other ways. A bunch of other people are doing the great work for the skate scene!
I have decided to stop selling XEM SKATERS on bigcartel and to instead open up a link for people to be able to download it for free and to print as many copies as they want. You can now access to all the PDFs and printing instructions by following the link here:

If you want to keep following my personal adventures, here's my instagram: .
I am still available to give lectures about zine making and community building and open to any questions you'd have.
Thanks to everyone that has been part of this journey.
Lots of q***r love and keep pushing
