The Polytechnic Institute Pilar Constanzo located in Villa Duarte, Santo Domingo Este, and the Department of Education and Community Initiative of Major League Baseball Dominican Republic celebrated a community activity in the Our Lady of Carmen Nursing Home located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo . During this activity, students from the aforementioned academic center donated goods, share snacks, played dominos and cards with the seniors that live in center. This activity was celebrated on May 20th 2014.

El Politecnico Pilar Contanzo de Villa Duarte, Santo Domingo Este, conjuntamente con la Departamento de Iniciativa de Educacion y Comunidad de la Major League Baseball realizaron donaciones y compartieron una mañana con ancianas del centro Nuestra Senora del Carmen en el mes de mayo 2014.

On Sunday, April 27th the MLB DR office and the Kansas City Royals DR Academy hosted a group of 10 doctors and students from Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience, who were in the DR to consult patients, give away medicine and donations to a community in need. The two community that benefited from this operation where located in La Romana, one was Batey 23 and the other Barrio George. In total 586 patients were consulted, between the KC doctors and 2 local movil clinics that were donated by Central Romana. Also, thanks to a donation of DT vaccines, 281 people were vaccinated. Everyone involved was happy about the outcome of the event. At the end of a long day, it was great to know that through their efforts so many people were positively impacted.

El domingo 27 abril la oficina de MLB DR y la academia de los Kansas City Royals recibieron a un grupo de 10 médicos y estudiantes de la Universidad de Kansas City Escuela de Medicina y Ciencias Biológicas que se encontraban en República Dominicana para una jornada médica, donde consultaron a pacientes, regalaron medicinas y donaciones a comunidades necesitadas. Las dos comunidades que se beneficiaron de este operativo se encuentran en La Romana, uno de ellos fue Batey 23 y el otro Barrio Jorge. En total 586 pacientes fueron consultados entre los médicos de KC y 2 unidades móviles de salud que fueron donados por Central Romana. También, gracias a la donación de vacunas de DT 281 personas fueron vacunadas. Todos los involucrados estaban muy felices por los resultados del evento. Al final de un largo día fue bueno saber que a través de sus esfuerzos pudieron impactar positivamente a tantas personas.

La academia de los Blue Jays de Toronto realizo un acercamiento al centro dirigido por la organización, Compassion International, localizado en Batey Alemán, San Pedro de Macorís. Durante este evento los jugadores visitaron el centro y compartieron una tarde con los niños y niñas que asisten a este centro para apoyo y actividades extra curriculares después de clases. Todos pasaron un gran momento haciendo actividades, disfrutaron de un brindis y jugando con la mascota de la oficina de MLB. El equipo también dono unas sillas que el centro necesitaba.

The Toronto Blue Jays DR Academy visited and made a donation to a nearby center also sponsored by Compassion International. The center is located in Batey Aleman, San Pedro de Macoris near the team’s academy. During this event the players visited the center and shared an afternoon with the boys and girls who attend this center for support and extracurricular activities. Everyone enjoyed a great time doing activities, having a snack and playing with the MLB office mascot. The team also donated some much needed chairs to the center.

Jugadores de la academia de los Miami Marlins visitaron Hogar Escuela, un lugar que brinda servicios de cuidado y de educación a aproximadamente 300 niños y niñas locales entre las edades de 3-6 años. Durante la actividad los jugadores resaltaron a los niños la importancia de ser buenos ciudadanos y de siempre valorar su educación. Los jugadores y niños compartieron una linda tarde que incluyo juegos, animación de la mascota de la oficina de MLB, un brindis con biscocho y jugo, y finalmente el equipo dejo una donación significativa de necesidades para el hogar.

Players from the Miami Marlins academy in the DR visited a place called, Hogar Escuela. This organization offers day care and education services to more than 300 local boys and girls from ages 3-6. During the activity the players highlighted the importance of being good citizens and getting a good education. The players and children shared a great afternoon that included games, animation from the MLB DR office mascot, a snack of juice and cake, and finally the team was able to donate necessary items to the school.

Hogar de Ancianas Nuestra Señora del Carmen is a nursing home in Los Coquitos, Boca Chica - Dominican Republic that houses 50 elderly women. This home is run by nuns and is one of a kind in the area. The players from the Yankees academy took some time out of their day to donate much needed items to the home and also visit with the ladies. The main objective of this outreach was to instill a giving spirit to the players and to show the ladies that these young men from their community care.

El Hogar de Ancianas Nuestra Señora del Carmen es un hogar de ancianos en Los Coquitos, Boca Chica, República Dominicana que alberga 50 mujeres de edad avanzada. Esta casa es manejada por monjas y es única en la zona. Los jugadores de la academia de los Yankees tomaron un tiempo de su día para donar artículos de primera necesidad para el hogar, además de visitar con las abuelitas. El objetivo principal de esta actividad fue para promover el acercamiento comunitario a los jugadores y para demostrar a las abuelitas que hay jóvenes de su comunidad que se preocupan por ellas.

More than 90 top MLB emerging players representing all 30 MLB clubs gathered at the New York Mets Academy and the Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo last weekend for 3 days of workshops related to what to expect when traveling to the US for Spring Training.
