The girl was in a terrible panic. I haven’t been able to find the video from the very beginning of this situation yet, but I definitely will, and you’ll see for yourself that she had nothing to do with it. Imagine yourself in her place: you’re not a very experienced diver, surrounded by bubbles that make it hard to see anything, and suddenly, something many times larger than you rapidly approaches… and, on top of that, opens its mouth. Wouldn’t you run? And if not, you’d likely freeze in place, unable to move. I’ve seen both reactions. To be honest, when a whale shark “attacked” me for the first time (in quotation marks!), I simply held my camera out in front of me and froze until it pushed me aside.
