Treasured Trash is a 12 months community development project through artistic recycling planned and implemented by Darb 1718 Contemporary Art & Culture Center (Cairo) in partnership with Raaderum Office for Contemporary Art (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Associazione Indisciplinarte (Terni, Italy). Starting in 2014, an Egyptian community residing in Fustat, Old Cairo will engage in a democratic discuss
ion on the concept of “trash” and will receive free training in recycling art by expert artists from Egypt and abroad. The project changes behavior regarding trash disposal for the better and to achieve this, we have chosen to apply The Fun Theory: “the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better”. Treasured Trash addresses the perception of trash, its possible value and the role of recycled art as both an active agent and a source of inspiration for the participating community. The project is a reconceptualization of what trash is, what is truly wasted, how we can deal with it as a community and transform it into something of value and beauty. 100 members of the community in Fustat (women, youth and disabled) will attend 10 fun recycling art workshops held at Darb 1718. "كنوز الزبالة" عبارة عن مشروع تنمية مجتمعية عن طريق إعادة التدوير الفني يمتد اثني عشر شهرا وينفذه مركز درب ١٧١٨ للثقافة والفنون المعاصرة (القاهرة) بالتعاون مع مكتب راديروم للفن المعاصر (الدنمارك) وإسترني (إيطاليا). ومن المقرر اشتراك السكان المصريين المقيمين في منطقة الفسطاط بمصر القديمة في مناقشة ديمقراطية تتناول مفهوم "القمامة" وتتلقى تدريبا مجانيا على فن إعادة التدوير على يد فنانين ذوي خبرة من مصر ومن الخارج. ويهدف المشروع إلى تغيير سلوك التخلص من القمامة إلى الأفضل، ولتحقيق ذلك اخترنا تطبيق نظرية الترويح، والقائلة بأن "فكرة أن أمر ما سهل لدرجة الترويح هو أسهل طريقة لتغيير سلوك الناس إلى الأفضل."
وسوف يحضر السكان المصريين المقيمين في الفسطاط ورش عمل ترويحية عن فن إعادة التدوير تقام في درب ١٧١٨.
