Today we got our Permiso de Residencia - Residence Permits! Feeling very official 🤓😎 To move to Spain we applied for Visas (a bit of a laborious process) and then when we arrived we went through several steps to get our residence permits. It was about a 10 month process altogether. Pretty exciting day! 🇪🇸

Holiday traditions continued in new places! In Seattle we always walked to get our tree from our neighborhood lot and carried it home. Here we bought our tree from the local garden store along with some gorgeous poinsettias. The tree turned out to be a real plump little friend! The boys also chose a carnivorous plant for their room 😬

The pain, rage, fear, anger, helplessness the last two days of news have brought up for many of us is very real, especially for Black, Indigenous, and people of color. If you’re anything like me, you could use a way to calm your nervous system and get your prefrontal cortex back on line. Under stress and activation, we enter fight/flight/freeze states. These are three simple things you can do to get “back in your body.” (Swipe for them!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are extremely activated or having a trauma response, I do not recommend option 3, Presencing, as it may be too intense. Instead, try shaking your arms and legs, dancing, going for a walk outside, or other forms of movement to move the energy in your body. You might also try a long hug or snuggle with a safe person, which allows for co-regulation of the nervous system.

Happy New Year! Welcome, 2021.
We are entering an in-between place. A time to be purposeful and to connect to one another.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The new year offers a time and hope for new beginnings, shifting patterns, new intentions, a reset.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yet, this year we are still anchored to all we’ve gone through last year in a way that is unique from other year beginnings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We see the possibility of the end of this pandemic 😷 but don’t have answers about when. We feel the urge to start moving forward, but feel mired in restrictions. The uncertainty and lack of control is depleting.
♾ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the same time, many of us have found comfort and peace in some of the new ways of being — staying at home more, slowing life down. There’s a desire to look forward but also fear of what might “go back to normal”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our bodies are holding all we experienced in 2020 — the fear, anxiety, frustration, sadness, rage, deep grief — and will do until we allow our nervous systems to process these traumas.
